  1. I Only went to the East Rutherford show.. but there was no doubt for me the loudest corps of the night was Phantom.
  2. This is just ridiculous.. Everyone knows that Bears come from Chicago and last time I checked they would have to pass through Rosemont before they got to Rockford... So if anything The Cavaliers should be worried because they dont have Gaines to protect them anymore
  3. If it sounded like I was trying to have my cake and eat it too, thats not where I wanted to go. I FIRMlY believe that MBI and Bucs were both good enough to win Open Class this year. But I tried to get back to my main point, even the best possibly scenario for a Cadets feeder corps (BDB) would not be heads and shoulders better than DCA's top corps WITH the difference in rehearsal time. Cadets 2 is going to be comprised of raw yet talented kids who have no prior drum corps expierence rehearsing only on weekends. Thats not a recipe for the top spot in DCA.. especially the first year out.
  4. I think MBI or Bucs would have Hit the Wall at Crossmen, thats where the gap in semifinals widen IMO..
  5. I agree to disagree with this point.. I think Bucs and MBI would have won DCI open Class this year.. and even if they didnt the difference in rehearsal schedule was my major point. Take Blue Devils B and give them only weekends to rehearse and thier product would not be on the Level of Bucs or MBI.. just my opinion
  6. a couple of reactions from this.. One is that Rich Hammond is a major loss for the Bucanneers Organization. He has been there Since 2002 and has meant a great deal to thier current run. On the otherside I dont believe that extending the age to 25 for former marching members of the Cadets is that big of pool.. Many people are who march Cadets are not from the immediate area and I dont think they will have that many ageouts marching with them. Also people who are putting them at the top starting from scratch are mistaken. They will have the majority of thier membership comprised of raw yet talented kids who couldnt make the 150 that comprise the Cadets. As good as Blue Devils B and Vangaurd Cadets are neither one would have Won DCA this year and that is on an everyday schedule not a weekend only rehearsal schedule. Corps like Empire, Bucs, Cabs, Hurcs, and MBI do have alot of youth in thier corps, but draw alot from thier experienced membership that could be 30 or 40 years old that know what it takes to perform at a high level with only weekends to rehearse. All this being said I'm excited to have another competitve all age corps in Open Class and wish everyone well for the upcoming season.
  7. Actually it would be 97.. Empire was tied for second in prelims and than ended up tying brigs in finals
  8. I would love to see SCV do a show like "Bartok" but this time get it right and do "Barber".. adagio for string and medea please
  9. If you were at the show last night I think your perception might be changed.. Phantom last night were simply awesome.. At the beginning of the season it was a nice show.. Now its a whole different animal
  10. Just got back from the show and here are a couple quick thoughts Cadets - Have everything you would want in a title winning show.. and there is still some dirt.. really reminds me of 98 where the program was too good to be denied. Blue Devils - only seen them on the FN before this and TOTALLY changed my opinion.. The were so clean it was mind-boggling. Cavaliers - Thought they were a little flat tonight.. still a great progam and in other years who knows. Crown - thought they were a little flat tonight too still love the show though and the brass is great. Phantom - WOW. Most emotionally driven show of the night.. if only they had last years drumline (this years aint bad either just not a top 3 line) SCV - Loved this show as well.. they came along way this season Bluecoats - Good show tonight.. too much visual dirt holding them back. Blue Stars - Nice show, not on the level of the other corps.. Percussion probably doesnt get the love they deserve.
  11. Maybe you could expand on why you think that is the silliest thing youve seen on DCP.. Because personally I agree with the Post you referenced
  12. You would be correct if crying was the only emotion... think 1988 finals.. SCV and Madison were both two very emotional shows but couldn’t be any more different. We need shows that captivate the audience.. I really appreciate last years BD show for how technically proficient it was. If we are going to make GE more about communication with the audience that still leaves 60pts of proficiency so a corps like BD 2010 doesn’t have to be first in GE to win.. But it has to have some accountability to the audience connection.
  13. If you had asked me this question 5 years ago I'd say Cavies.. But the more ive watched both shows I appreciate Cadets 05 more and more, and Cavies 02 far less. Cadets would have crushed them in percussion.. Cadets 05 doesnt get the credit they deserve because it was one of the first shows that shoved narration down our throat. If that show was performed this year we would realize there really isnt that much narration in that show.. and one more thing Cadets 05 had the greatest ballad we have ever seen.
  14. I honestly dont understand why Crown's show is being considered cheesy... So now if a show is entertaining its cheesy?!?! IMO this show will be top 3 at the minimum and I will love every cheesy moment of it
  15. The best.. Cadets 1998 honorable mentions Cavaliers 2000, 2002 Cadets 2000, 2007
  16. Cabs definately pushed the envelope in 2003 and probably pushed it too far for thier own good in 2004
  17. Them fighting words.. I think that maybe one of the most underrated shows of all time... Still think it was the best drill ever written.
  18. Alright lets set this thread on fire STAR 93 I still enjoy this show.. but so over blown.. visually a mess on finals night and you could possibly fall asleep until the last five minutes woke you up
  19. I believe that the age limit is not an advantage… it will be a hindrance. What’s the biggest advantage that DCI has over DCA? The touring schedule and practicing 7 days a week. DCA is weekends only.. So now were essentially having kids who didn’t make Cadets most likely because of lack of experience and only giving them weekends to learn. The only thing the age limit accomplishes is creating a lack of Vets in the corps. I fail to see the advantage.
  20. I agree for the most part the people who understand and appreciate difficult drill are former marchers.. someone who I bring to a show for the first or second time isnt going to get that they are just going to appreciate what thier ears tell them.
  21. Cavies because of composition were better.. However I absolutely loved the staging of Bluecoats guard.. I think they were staged better than any other guard on the field
  22. I love the change because I probably wouldnt have been able to see a DCI show this year with out it being moved to piscataway... I was when the schedule first came out because that is normally the day of Clifton/ or giants stadium.
  23. I'd love to see it split low brass and high brass like in juxtaperformance
  24. I couldn’t disagree more. 2007 they had the best visual program… and were a couple of tenths in guard and percussion from winning the whole thing 2008 really liked the visual program but they weren’t as clean as they needed to be. 2009 they again had the best visual program on the field. And for once they let the music tell the story not a lame character. 2010 drill was about a 5th place drill.. and I think it was written for the talent level of the corps because it was supposedly a predominately “rookie” core. In my humble opinion Jeff Sacktig is the best drill writer in the activity.
