I would like to see it return to a fan voted lineup. Even if there are restrictions on what corps are eligible, it would probably get more butts in seats.

I also think it's that when you see a corps become successful at a certain schtick, other corps try to emulate that, and conversely, when you try a style that fails, you immediately make an effort to try something else.

This is what I was going to say. It's rolling the window down as I'm about 5 blocks away from the stadium, smelling the bus fumes, and hearing exactly what Bozzly says...

Just bumping my own thread--Boston Preview is on Saturday! Anyone see them in theaters tonight?

Hey 2Cool--if you and your friends like what you see, you should head south to Lakewood Ranch on Saturday to see Boston's preview! Nothing better than drum corps in theaters except live drum corps!!!

Yeah, not much to go on with the long tones, but they sound good. I think I am going to go to the theaters next Thursday to see the preview!!

BozzlyB, Totally agree...so many aspects of presenting an unfinished show irk me, but the worst is what you reference. I think it's one thing to not have some visuals in, maybe have the flags stripped for a few counts here and there, but to just park and blow for the last segment of the show and get scored for it drives me nuts! If they're so good anyway, the drop in score while they "finish" their show should be overcome in the coming weeks, right? Why not knock them downa peg or two in the meantime?

Boston 09 definitely had an anti-ballad. Only about 10 seconds of soft, then accel. to the end. I loves me a ballad, but I think it worked for Boston last year. Don't worry though OP, I hear they have one this year.

I think I agree with Granny--mostly. This could apply to another thread I was just reading--the "attitude" thread where it was implied that the Blue Devils are famous for excellence on the field, and sometimes, also infamous for their off-the field persona. I think what Granny might mean is: isn't the activity supposed to teach excellence across the board? Most corps have that somewhere in their mission statement, but when did it become ok to be great on the field, and not so great off the field? Also, if I may put word into Granny's mouth, I think corps that are striving to move up in the world, (like Troop or Boston), are trying to get their act in gear OFF the field first, and it seems like some of the corps that are already "there" don't necessarily worry so much about the off the field. It's not really about the poster.

Don, your last chance to see them is the weekend of may 14 at lakewood ranch. Since DCI is not going to Orlando, this is the ONLY time ot see them in FL all summer. I can't go--you should go in my place so I can live vicariously through you!
