  1. In 2005 The Cadets swept all captions and sub captions. I know it was the first time a corps has ever swept all sub captions, but I'm not sure if another corps has swept all captions.
  2. I think Crown uses straight leg. To over simplify the Cavalier's technique, its bent leg.
  3. I was wearing my corps jacket in a mall once and a guy stopped me to say hi. He had marched at the same corps, 4 years earlier.
  4. Frank Sullivan did some great original stuff with the Blue Stars, most notably in 2009. Saucedo's stuff with the Cavaliers. 2001-2003, 2006, and 2008 are some of my favorites.
  5. I'm trying to upgrade my Live account to Live+Blu, but when I log in and go the the "Subscriptions" page under "Shop" there are no options to select. Is the FanNetwork under maintenance? It's been like this for several days.
  6. Sorry, I phrased the question poorly. I meant when was the last time their guard didn't win in general (as in not just at finals). My bad.
  7. When was the last year they didn't win guard on finals? When was the last time their guard didn't win in general (as in not just at finals)?
  8. I'd like to see James Barnes' Third Symphony, particularly Movement 3. But all of it would be great.
  9. Corps don't always announce early because they are still trying to acquire rights for some of the music they want to use. Wouldn't you rather wait a bit longer to find out a show if it means all of it will make the DVD?. Also, designing a show is a process. The design staff may change what material they want to use for a show.
  10. Other than the weight, I think Jupiter tubas are better than Yamahas or Kings. Darker, richer, louder. But they are quite a bit heavier.
  11. My favorite used to be the Cavaliers and the Blue Stars without question, but the more I listen and watch DCI, the more enjoy all corps. 2006-present Blue Devils have really grown on me, so has SCV (all years). I think the less you focus on whose uniform it is out there, the more fun it is.
  12. Agreed. Didn't they go from 4th to 1st from semis to finals? I may be mistaken.
  13. Let me start by saying, I thought 2011 was an amazing year. There were no shows in finals that I didn't like. Sure, I had my favorites, but as a whole it was an amazing year. Favorite Overall: Blue Devils. I love Burt Bacharach, so the music really clicked with me. I also thought the visual design was great, and of course the guard was phenomenal (as BD's always is). Favorite Music: Blue Devils, Boston, and Carolina Crown. Blue Devils for the reason stated above. I'm a big fan of Les Mis, so Boston was very fun for me. Crow, kind of had a love it or hate it show (or so that is what I've gathered from others). I fall into the love it portion. Great arranging, integration of rock and classical, and of course, excellent brass. Favorite Drill: Cadets and Cavaliers. The Cadets had such an original design visually and it was designed perfectly. The Cavaliers have always been a favorite of mine, a huge part of that is because of Michael Gaines. Favorite Opener: Bluecoats and Phantom Regiment. While I didn't find the whole Bluecoats show as great as Metropolis, the opener definitely was. Phantom's opener was beautiful, love the mello rips. Favorite Closer: Madison Scouts. I thought the energy was out of this world. Maybe not the cleanest, but the way they did it, I didn't care.
  14. Both are important, but the real benefit behind marching is the education you get.
  15. Brass- 2002 Cavaliers Percussion- 2007 Blue Devils Visual- 2003 Cavaliers Color Guard- 2009/2010 Blue Devils
  16. What am I most excited for? Marching with the Blue Stars.
  17. I've only watched DCI live in two stadiums (I'll be marching Blue Stars this summer), but I've enjoyed it in both of them. Howard Wood Field, Sioux Falls, SD. Its a pretty basic high school stadium, good size. The turf nice (marched on it), the box is decently high up and it has plenty of seating. TCF Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, MN. I had really good seats this last summer for the show and it was great. Glad we get such a big regional up here, and if finals ever moves out of Indy, I think TCF could make a good bid for it.
  18. I got a chance to meet Mr. Rosander at the February Blue Stars camp. He's a very nice guy who had a lot of great things to say. It was cool talking to a legendary drill designer, as I aspire to write for a corp some day. I can't wait to march his drill this summer, and I think the show will be a fan favorite.
  19. Hey everyone, I'm relatively new to WGI (both guard and percussion) and my old school is considering starting indoor programs for both guard and percussion. I have Pyware 3D and I wrote drill for my schools band this last year and I would like to be on staff for designing the indoor shows, but I'm not sure what program to use for designing for indoor groups. If anyone knows what programs to use it would be helpful. Thanks everyone!
  20. TCF Bank Stadium in the Twin Cities up here in Minnesota! Nice new stadium, with good box.
  21. Hello, I'm from Pipestone, MN and we are thinking about starting a winter guard. Our color guard usually has a few winter rehearsals before marching band, but we to boost our program by starting a WGI style winter guard. Our goal is not only to boost their skills, but their numbers. From 2005-2008 our guard was over 20 members (which for a high school with 400 students 9-12 is pretty good), but we graduated a huge class two years ago and now they are under 10 members. We want them to perform at halftime at some basketball games, do some shows on the North Star Circuit, and maybe one day do a WGI event. I'm not a CG guy at all. I marched tuba, and I'm a senior in high school this year (future Music Ed student) so I know very little about how this works, but I'm hoping to learn a lot and help them out. We also lost our CG Tech from the last 10 years. Luckily Sioux Falls Roosevelt will likely loan us a tarp they used for marching band in 2007, so hopefully we don't have to worry about getting one this year. When and how often do most guards practice? After school, before school, weekends? How soon before their first showing do guards practice? What is the North Star Circuits schedule this year (for some reason their website won't load on my Macbook Pro)? Also, we need a theme!!! The tarp we will likely use is a black and white checker pattern, so we were thinking of a Chess themed show. Any music ideas or prop/equipment ideas for that? Any help at all is really appreciated. We want to get our student body interest and excited for this. Thanks!
