In 2005 the Raiders in Open Class had literally NO Drum Major at all! I knew something was up when the announcer said, "Are the judges ready? ... Raiders, are YoOOuUUUUUU ready?"

I just watched there 05 performance, looking for a view of the pit. I was NOT expecting such a powerful performance.. WOW! I LOVE discovering strong groups I had no previous knowledge of. New Impulse fan right here!

So, I was watching shows on the fan network, as per usual, when something caught my eye. Something I've always seen but never really thought about. Which shows/corps can you guys point out in which the front ensemble was wearing something different than the Drumline & Hornline? Examples off the top of my head are BK 2012, Crown 2011, Forte 2010 & 2011. Anybody else seen it in other corps/shows? If you could post a pic with it, even better!

Thanks everyone for all your input! I myself fall into this category. Played clarinet/Bass clar since sixth grade, now I'm in college and still playing. I have marched Drum Corps the past 2 seasons. I am especially looking for those woodwind-turned-drummer stories. Rare I'm sure, but there's got be somebody out there on these forums who knows a guy or two.

I don't post on here often, and typically avoid the BS that is so common. But here's a fun question I've been thinking about for a while. How often does a woodwind player (or any non-DCI instrument) march Drum Corps? What examples can you think of? Even more specifically: I recently read about some saxophone player becoming a bass Drum at Cadets a while back. How often does THIS happen, a non-drummer drumming for drum corps? Let's hear ALL the stories

On these two dates, the 4 texas corps ( or at least 3) are involved in the Texas Drum Corps preview and a Father's day performance in Southlake, TX respectively. These are both standstill performances.

My first exposure of DCI was from a Phantom Regiment video, and like you suggested, I did indeed feel captivated to march there. However, being a woodwind player and not so quick to picking up brass or guard (DL is out of the question XD) I decided to look at a 'lower corps'. In fact I am marching open class, not even top 8, and feel like this is going to be a fantastic summer. Exposure at all was what got me involved :)

Although not a direct answer to the question, I will say that I was first introduced to Drum Corps through watching the intro and opener of Phantom's Spartacus show. That was a year and a half ago. This summer I will be the Drum Major of Forte dbc, and undoubtedly be involved in this activity as long as my body and mind will possibly allow, hoping that be many years to come. (And I do plan on buying DVDs and Downloads XD) Make it Loud!

So yeah, what if Cadets did something like this with their uniforms? I think it would be AMAZING! ^^ Marching band vid, NOT A DRUM CORPS! Dont fret about copyright and all haha

Went to Mama's Pizza in Plano, wearing my phantom Regiment souvie dog tag. Mama, behind the cash register, noticed the tag and says, "Holy Cow that's Phantom!" Whilst enjoying a free pizza buffet that day, she told me about her brother who marched Phantom on contra in the late 80s. <3
