  1. Yah. Hard to remember them all. Just think here in Jersey. Newark had 5 Corps at the same time. One or two National Contenders. Late '50s to mid '1960s. "Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights", "St. Lucy's Cadets", "Woodsiders", "St. Joe's Iron Bound", "St. Rose of Lima Imperial Lancers". . and you could have had a Circuit with Just Newark . (ADD just the Towns/Cities that touch the Newark border and you could of had about 10 Corps Circuit.)
  2. Ray F and others. Wow how did I leave out Smithtown "Freelancers". Competed against them. As well as OLPH "Ridgemen", AND, "St. Rocco's" and "LI Kingsmen". They were pretty nice Corps. ('60s-'70s)
  3. I don't remember much about the "Lindenair's". Heck for a while I thought they were from Linden, NJ, (maybe because I was from Jersey) BUT, unlike Selden Cadet's that got sponsored by Pepsi. (they just added a Pepsi bottle cap Patch on one sleeve and a Pepsi Flag). The "Islanders" had those Kelly Green and Orange Uniforms. You could not miss or forget them. There (Long Island) had a lot of Corps back then. I bet, Almost enough to have a Circuit of their own. ( Queensmen, Selden Cadets, Floyd Bennet, St. Ignatius, Royaleers, Islanders, Linenairs, too name some. Then add Seniors Sunrisers, Etc.)
  4. This is very sad to read here. I know Everyone did not care for the punishment given . (me either. He was not my most favorite person on every issue.) But so what. Don't read his posts if he offended you. I know I have made some Mistakes in my Drum Corps Life. ( that was the "horrible which of the west", being the biggest, BOY was I WRONG. And it Cost me a lot of Friends and Respectability.) Moving seems rather drastic a thing to do. If Most of the people send NOTE ASKING FOR at least a Part reversal, and they refuse. maybe then move. I am not a card carrying member. (I would be if asked). I do not do Facebook though. So I would lose a site I read all the time. But then I am OLD and very ill. So my opinion may not be of very much value. I am lucky to get to One Event a year now.
  5. No need to get in PIZZEN fight about This. YES, Many , Many , Many, kids have come and marched from Non North American Countries in our American Corps. Both DCI and DCA. Yes. DCI has had many at the DCI Championships with many Non North American Corps. BUT, two Non North American Corps have made DCA (larger) Open Class FINALS. ("Inspires" from Japan and Kids Grove "Scouts" of Great Britain) (OH. and bye the way a few years ago. The Reilly Raiders Alumni Corps went to Dublin, Ireland)
  6. The 1969 "Yankee Rebels" - Requiem For An Era. "FISRT Full Theme show". Color Guard wore 1/2 Union - 1/2 Confederate uniforms, Same for Flags. All Civil War era music. (from start, till Wars end. Just had to be there in Atlanta and Jersey City to see and hear. The Fan reaction was one that has NEVER been seen again. The 1975 New York City "Skyliners". The 1966 Chicago "Cavaliers". The 1972 "So Cal Kingsmen". The "SC Vanguard" - Phantom of the Opera (forget year). The "Star of Indiana" - (Year they did Patriotic show. The 2006 "The Cavaliers" - Machine. Just to mention some!
  7. Wow! what has happened to "The Alumni" area. Should be Lot's going on for the New Season coming up. Meanwhile. I hope many are planning on going to the New Jersey Hall of Fame. It is always a great night of "food, Fun, and entertainment. Then with the "Inductions" and "Meet & Greet Them" and Many people you do not see often. Hope all enjoy a Great Night!
  8. Good Luck " Kilties " getting things together for nest year. You are one of my all time Favorites in both Jr. and Senior(All Age). I have many memories of you as a competitor and as a Fan in the stands. Keep it going.
  9. Two other really nice Championships from that time. The "U.S. Open" - Marion, Ohio and "The Nationals" (Bluegrass) Nationals - Lexington, Kentucky. I also enjoyed those a few times.
  10. I agree. ( Shenandoah Sound ) Always pleasing to watch and listen to. Then add some of the Nicest, friendly people, that I met in my 50 years of Drum Corps. No matter their size. A Class Act for sure.
  11. OK "SCOUTS". 2015 season is coming. I know it takes a bunch of MONEY. So, have the "Scouts" started to look into returning to DCA 2015 at Rochester? It Would be Great to see: "Scouts" United Kingdom again!!! The also maybe "Heartliner" Germany, or "Inspirers" Japan, and maybe even one from Holland also.
  12. I am not a DCI FAN. BUT. On the Carolina Crown site, they have the most FANTASTIC History on Video's. 25 years worth of the Corps History and MORE. My god they are Talented. From the very Start in 1990 to 2014. So even if you are Not much of a DCI Fan, or a C. Crown Fan. GO see. http://www.carolinacrown.org/web/ then go to right side, scroll down to YouTube. You will find year after year (and MORE)
  13. Thank You, to those that replied to my post. Some interesting and informative things.
  14. Although a lot may not care. Here is what I think. (Finals Exhibition's) YES the MINI CORPS Winner should be one!!!!!! DCA missed a chance Last year to change the EXHIBITION spot thing. I think "Heartliner " should have done it. Coming all the way from Germany in Europe. Save a spot for the HIGHEST placing NON North American Continent (That did not make either Finals) Seeing these Corps from Japan, Great Britain, and Germany would be a Treat for them and the Fans. Showing DCA a "REAL World Wide" Contest. The Fans would get to see these, AND others. Corps that many here in the USA would never see otherwise. Then IF a Non North American Corps came, Fill the spot with an ALUMNI Corps. Have one of the Alumni that does a Full Field Show. Also make sure that it is one that has Not done it for the 2 years Pryor. Or something like that. I do think it would be Good for ALL. Showing ALL, the different things that DCA has to offer from a World Wide Championship. Weekend
  15. THANK YOU KEVIN AGAIN. You do such a good job. I wish you a safe trip home. ( LI Sunrisers. I think going on in front of a Large Crowd at the Championships. Under the Light's. Would have been a better choice. Showing how GOOD you are to the Fans. )
  16. ***** THANKS KEVIN ***** I look forward to your Coverage every year. Great every time. See you at Finals! - Class A and Open! Cin. Tradition Sun Devils Govies White Sabers Alliance Carolina Gold Connecticut Hurricanes Bushwackers Cadets2 Atlanta CV Fusion Core Reading Buccaneers Minnesota Brass Hawthorne Caballeros
  17. I was wondering the same thing. Just about Everyone Competing this weekend. Douglasville, GA - Scranton, PA - St Peter, MN Shame if not. BIG near end of season shows scores, leading into The Championships.
  18. A lot of Corps could learn from the "Govies". As a usually small Corps in DCA, they KNOW how to put out a Corps that always seem to please BOTH the Judges and the Fans. A Regular in the top 3 in DCA Class A. They match the Music, Drill to their Size with both High Quality and Entertainment for all to See and Hear. The people I have met, Enjoy what they are doing, and are some of the Friendliest you will meet.
  19. Anyone going to do any reporting from the Show?
  20. It is my understanding that about 90% of DCA judges are also DCI Judges. And do well with either DCA or DCI Sheets. I also thought that DCA sheets were sent to DCI shows that will have DCA Corps getting scores. Does DCI have similar sheets they use for All Age DCA Corps? So, can some one tell me where or if I am wrong? (Granted DCI judges not in DCA areas would some have trouble with DCA sheets, they may not use very often.)
  21. BUT, The SHOW that WON the American Legion Nationals. The FIRST Corps to do a FULL Theme show (Guard had different Uniforms, Special Flags, and All music for an Entire "Theme". The Corps that the FANS went absolutely wild for. Had the Longest response too. The 1969 Yankee Rebels. Here is a Quote for CorpsReps : " It was said that it took 24 years for the Yankee Rebels to reach their summit. The group didn't win every contest, but they did take more than their share, and that included the 1969 American Legion Nationals in Atlanta. The crowd applauded for over ten minutes at the conclusion of that memorable show. The Yankee Rebels won not only the show but also the hearts of the drum corps world. " The Corps had them cheering still - AFTER - the Corps was No Longer even in the Stadium. The Crowd at the "Dream" in Jersey City, NJ about the same. I had, high up at 50 yard line seats at Both. Never seen anything like it, Before or Since.
  22. Thanks for covering the show. There are many shut-in's that can not make it to the show. Maybe not posting. BUT, following your every word . (St. Lucy's Cadets - Golden Knights SR - NYC Skyliners - Heat Wave of Orlando - and more. For 50 years in Corps))
  23. BUT STILL !!! No one has said where any of the Practice sites are!
