  1. Thank you for posting the pics of the Crossmen! I appreciate you!
  2. In addition to getting involved, I would strongly suggest you start getting as much physical activity as possible. It is very common for an athlete ( and I DO consider Drum Corps a sport and the players athletes) to go through a period of depression when an injury occurs and they must cease their activity . There are very real physiological reasons why this occurs. In addition, there are emotional issues when you can no longer identify yourself as a "enter corps name here" member. There is a loss of identity and value. All of this is perfectly normal, but you do need to do something about it. Paintball? great! Gym? great! Join a SUP'ing group? great! The point is to get moving again. Find an activity you enjoy, join a group to do said activity, and watch the relationships and your health rebuild.
  3. The connection between Crossmen and Bones runs very deep. The do a mass brass together each year when they form one complete circle with both corps and play their show for each other. Then they also play their corps songs! This is one of my kid's favorite moments on tour. Also, let us now forget to pay proper respects to Bones himself. (You may genuflect now...)
  4. Kevin. and Copsband, Thank you so much for the pics and information! I love that someone is there and willing to be our eyes and ears!
  5. The Cavies facebook pic of their schedule showed instant encore.
  6. It's the Encore performance. And if I was in "Sin City" I'd bet the piece is Hallelujah!
  7. Tag loopin'froot loops... you're it! Keep the posts coming!
  8. You've got the right music, with the right drill, with the right talent. This is your time! Get it, Bones!
  9. I'm a fifth teacher and there are 4 days of school left. In order to keep the kids interested in class I've started showing WC Semi-Finals (2011) in the morning. (Don't Judge! ) One of my students said, "My dad did that." Um, maybe. I'm so used to people saying "oh yeah, I know about that. I've seen the movie Drum Line", that I was a little sceptical. Turns out he was! In the early 80's he was in connection with both the Crossmen and Phantom Regiment! We were both so suprised to find out that we wound up talking for 20 minutes! Even cooler, he played the exact horn that my kid plays. It really is a small world. I would love to hear about chance encounters you've had!
  10. Volunteering on the food truck for the week and even better yet being able to serve meals to all the amazing young people in Crossmen!
  11. Went to see family friends tonight and took them dinner. Had a great evening, especially when we started talking DCI. He is a former Fine Arts Director for a local ISD and wasn't familiar with DCI. He couldn't believe how the program works and was so impressed with what the "Young People" are putting on the field. We watched some of my favorite shows of 2011 and talked about the music, marching and details. It was so much fun to share this with him! And we have a new convert. He will be at the San Antonio Regional this year! It's always fun to bring a new fan into the fold! :D
  12. I would agree with the snare line. However... This year the Crossmen has an incredibly high vet retention rate, expecially in the bari line. At auditions, there were 40 people trying out for the only 3 positions remaining.
  13. No leaks this year.... It helps build the anticipation!
  14. Ok... I love Hans Zimmer and The Lion King was great. But before he did The Lion King, he wrote the music for a little known movie called "The Power Of One". If you like african/tribal feel in music, check out that soundtrack! It is my all-time favorite!!
  15. Wow! I can't wait to see what is in store for Bones in 2012!
  16. My first love is Crossmen. (That's where my kid was!) After that it is a tie between the Madison Scouts and Cavies. The Scouts show brought me to tears every time I saw the tower fall. Then they had me on my feet celebrating during ESOM. I love the Cavies because of how masculine the show was! They were so inventive. On another note, I was on the plane flying home from finals with my son when I got to watch an interesting dynamic... In front of us was a young man in his Cavies jacket. Another young man in a Scouts jacket walked up and realized he was sharing the row with the Cavies member. They both regarded each other for a moment, trying to decide if it was ok to sit with someone from another corps. Then, at the same time, they smiled and introduced themselves to each other. It was an absolutely precious moment to watch. It turns out the Cavie was a rookie and the Scout had just aged out. I had a blast listening to them share their stories.
  17. What we learned the first year of tour: No Black clothing in TEXAS! No black shoes for practice! No Black shirts! No Black shorts! No Black Hats! No way! No how! The Purex 3-in-1 washing/drying sheets rock! Save your perscription pill bottles to store quarters in. Then keep the purex and bottles of quarters in your laundry bag so you will have them when you need them. A power strip with surge protector is a good thing. Get a bright/fun color so you can identify it. My kid got a self-inflatable mattress for the tour. In fact, he requested it as a Christmas present from his grandparents. It's only about 2 inches thick when inflated and rolls up easily. That way he didn't have to look for a plug when all he wanted to do was get some floor time. Sport-Wash Scent Destroying Laundry Detergent will take out the tour funk smell. It's in the sporting goods section, not laundy. Have a great summer!
  18. Getting ready to go to semis and can't wait to see my beloved Bones one last time. I hope all the Crossmen fans who are there will join me and stand up when the corps hits the cross. Let's let them know just how much they are loved! On Your feet!! Go Bones!
  19. I have been on the road since Monday. Traveling with family, ready to OD on DCI. Wishing you safe travels....
  20. To my Beloved Crossmen, Thank you for an amazing Rookie season. I have been astounded by what you have accomplished and the crowd's positive reaction to your show. You have shown up each evening to put your heart and soul on the field. Thank you for giving us so much of yourself... for laughter, tears and goosebumps! For playing "Hallelujah" with such passion that no crowd can't help but be moved. And for honoring those who came before you. I will love you forever! To the Madison Scouts, "Where words fail, music speaks." Thank you for putting on a show which handles 9/11 with such grace. Your show brings back all of the emotion of that fateful day. In my kitchen, watching the towers fall, I was consumed with so many raw emotions that I wasn't able to see hope; you have put that hope into the show. Thank you for honoring that day in our history.
