  1. Eric, Are you implying that I should over-indulge at the Beer Tent to make up for not seeing the corps from June 23 until August 9? Alright, you talked me into it!
  2. I'll see them this Saturday in Coon Rapids, Sunday in Menomonie, and the following Saturday in Rockford. Then not until Quarters. I expect to be mightily impressed, and then completely bummed that it'll be 47 days between viewings.
  3. I don't think we had any 2-valve horns in 1994 (maybe a couple contras). I remember a friend marching a 2-valve euphonium in 1992, though.
  4. That would have been 1998. To heck with the Volusia County Fairgrounds! I tell ya, housing during finals week that year was the perfect ending. :P Thanks for the comments, Chris. The show won't make any Best of Regiment DVDs, but I liked it and the summer was fun, for the most part. And you're exactly right about the members who came back in 1999 and 2000: "They marched Regiment to march Regiment, which is the only reason to do it at all." D*mn straight.
  5. Poorly written drill, decent music (except Un Bel Di), many inexperienced members, and a revolving door of caption heads and executive directors since the early 90's. There ya go.
  6. Just a couple corrections: Kristy and Jenny were conductors in 1996. Kristy was backfield as a rookie in 95, and frontfield in 96 and 97. The conductors in 1998 were Steven Moss frontfield and Tommy Feagin backfield. Tommy took over in 1999.
  7. On tour, I would sometimes have a dream in which I stopped in the middle of a performance and starting running around the field like crazy, knocking people over. It would freak me out a bit during actual performances because I thought I might lose my mind momentarily and really do it.
  8. Here's who I remember from around 94-96: Garrett Decker, Glenn Howard, Kimberley Gay I can picture the guard caption head from 98, but can't remember her name. Garrett might have been around that year, too.

  10. Man, oh man. I hate putting the Scouts 8th in this one. I love that show. Reg gets the extra 1/10th to make things right. :P 3rd through 6th was extremely tough to call. 98.9 - 1 - 1989 Phantom Regiment (Brass, Visual) 97.5 - 2 - 1990 Star of Indiana (GE) 96.5 - 3 - 1992 Cavaliers (Drums) 96.4 - 4 - 1995 Blue Devils 96.3 - 5 - 1998 SCV 96.2 - 6 - 1994 Cadets (Guard) 95.5 - 7 - 1986 Suncoast Sound 94.0 - 8 - 1999 Madison Scouts 93.5 - 9 - 2000 Boston Crusaders 91.0 - 10 - 1981 27th Lancers 90.5 - 11 - 1997 Crossmen 90.0 - 12 - 2001 Glassmen

  15. Awesome topic. 1 - 98.8 - 1993 Star of Indiana (Brass, GE) 2 - 97.8 - 1999 SCV 3 - 97.5 - 2001 Cavaliers (Visual, Guard) 4 - 97.2 - 2000 Cadets (Drums) 5 - 96.9 - 2003 Blue Devils 6 - 94.9 - 2005 Phantom Regiment 7 - 94.4 - 2006 Bluecoats 8 - 93.9 - 1995 Madison Scouts 9 - 92.0 - 1980 Spirit of Atlanta 10 - 90.0 - 1984 Suncoast Sound 11 - 89.5 - 2005 Carolina Crown 12 - 88.5 - 2004 Boston Crusaders Back in the RAMD days, someone hosted an NCAA tourney style drum corps bracket. It'd be fun to do that again with all DCI Div 1 finalists back to 1972.
  16. That's awesome. A couple years ago, another guy in MBI and I would each put a dollar bill on our music stand at the beginning of rehearsal. The first person to break in any way would collect the money.
  17. Nah, just kidding. That's funny. My junior corps nickname was Ernie.
  18. I'm not comfortable with this nickname for Ernesto. <**> I was in Rochester at the time, though. Worse than my other rain/corps story, which was at the Preview show in Madison in 1996 when we waited in a downpour for ten minutes before starting our show. My tv time in 94 was limited to me backing up through the maze of helmets near the end of Claire du Lune.
  19. It's a fine enough tribute, but my problem with it is that too many people assume change = progress. It's not necessarily so. That said, I'm a fan of many of the Cadets' shows (2005 among them, but not 2006), and I'm glad there is a corps out there exploring new territory, even if it means facing harsh criticism.
