  1. Ok this is interesting but... it seems like a lot of design work, and most importantly: how are you going to get any points / credit for this? The judges judge the show that you perform that night. You don't get any credit during the show for saying "hey, also we could've done the show in these 5 different ways too!" because... you didn't perform those shows. I think the "concept" of having a show like this is cool but I'm not sure how it is supposed to be "rewarded"...
  2. IMO it is becoming increasingly clear to me that if EVERYTHING in the activity comes to light that there will be no more activity. The criminals are many. And the people that are facilitating the criminals are many more. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks and all that... ya know? Would the people calling out others be confident their own houses are clean? It seems more and more unlikely that there aren't many clean houses to be found. So they think their best strategy is to hide the dirt. And despite what the G7 might think, if the activity wakes up tomorrow with with half of the corps left, that probably isn't enough to sustain it (though a big portion of the G7 would be gone as well in this scenario).
  3. I agree... but I'll just offer that when literally the most powerful people in DCI are involved in this (eg, multiple widely celebrated corps directors), how can any victims possibly think that they will be protected? Junior and mid-level staff can look up in the activity to the very best and see that these actions are tolerated at the top, which means there's no reason for the "next generation" to think that they will face any consequences.
  4. Found this comment on the DCI Facebook post announcing Spirit won't be participating: (posted by a male)
  5. It is true I have been around less in the last couple years b/c... there was no drum corps. Absolutely people should be allowed to post their thoughts! It tells a lot about who they are as a person :)
  6. This is possibly the worst post I've seen in 15+ years on DCP... which says a lot.
  7. It's clear that DCI just doesn't care. Not only about this incident, but just in general. As long as the shows are high quality, the rest doesn't really matter. And by DCI not caring, what I really mean is the individual people that are in leadership positions in the activity. "The corps are DCI"... so, good... the corps do not care. The directors of these corps do not care. The caption heads do not care. The designers do not care. The senior staff cadre in DCI that move throughout the activity... this is their lifeline. Their association with these on field products has brought them hundreds of thousands of dollars each. Not from the corps themselves (though maybe?), but from the competitive high school marching band landscape. These top notch staff are getting paid well into the 5 figures each year by the competitive bands. And the people are getting this money because of their work in DCI. How can what they are doing be wrong if it is being financially rewarded like this? If DCI cared, would a person from the midwest be happily accepted on the west coast? Would the west coast corps rising up the ranks outweigh the person's actions? Would an East Coast director be able to run his own personal grooming studio masquerading as an educational youth organization for decades? And the lower level tech staff; the activity is directly bringing them thousands of dollars as well. These staff will go get good teaching money from competitive high school programs. Because of their association with DCI. And even the members... how many members walk off the field in August and walk onto a high school field to make thousands of dollars in the fall marching band season? All of these people have an interest to protect the status quo. Everyone on this thread saying "DCI doesn't get it" and "DCI needs to do more".... DCI knows what is going on. AND THEY DON'T CARE. Believe people when they tell you what they are. Are there good people in drum corps? Of course. There are many. But the activity is rotten. An apple that's 90% good is a bad apple. How many people knew in real time about the situation at Spirit? How many people knew about the GH situation? How many knew about the personality moving to the west coast? Are these people good people? Most of us on this website have marched DCI. Many of us donate money to this activity. How many of us are honestly surprised at ANY of these stories? If we aren't surprised, isn't that a problem? Isn't that a BIG problem...? What does that say about us? Are we part of the problem too? What does that say about the activity? Someone suggested "maybe it's time for DCI to die"... and maybe it is.
  8. maybe the corps that are participating this year should be rewarded / thanked by the organization... perhaps they can all get +3 points added to their scores each show in 2022 (only partially joking)
  9. In Virginia, I signed that all of the people / facilities / providers (etc) involved in administering my dose were not responsible for anything that happens. lol
  10. not sure if I would agree with "risk adverse"... but perhaps "absent" for instance, I don't think DCI is at all risk adverse when dealing with sexual harassment and assault. They have buried their head in the sand on that front for years and it seems to work fine for them, so it seems somewhat natural they would try they same thing with COVID.
  11. I am not confident the "checkbooks" are going to be able to find corps places to stay all summer when this is over... unfortunately, I think 2021 is going to be a year where a lot of people are going to need to decide whether they will donate money to something that may not exist in 2022...
  12. I've heard about a guy with a bassoon presentation that could really help drive eyeballs and become the talk of the town and generate word of mouth interest. Perhaps DCI would want to reach out to him.
  13. the key is that the longer they "plan for a season", the more students they can get to pay for access to audition material etc...
  14. How many corps have no kids under 16 or 18? (I expect the top corps, 2 of which are not playing this year, perhaps have the fewest) Perhaps those kids will not be allowed this year?
  15. the PARTICIPANTS will 100% not be vaccinated. There are no vaccines approved for youth yet. edit: obviously, none of the kids who are in "in person" school or will be in "in person" school soon have been vaccinated either.
  16. to be clear, they ordered 100 million doses of a vaccine that was not yet proven to work. Then after it was proven to work, they ordered more... correct? I think everyone is ordering all of the working vaccines that they can.
  17. I think this is the first hint from the DCI side that the Indy "event" will not be a competition...
  18. heaven forbid the corps that put on a show are able to collect more money than the corps that don't field for a season... corps that don't field don't need any money. Maybe those corps will be back in 2022. If so, they would have a chance to compete with everyone else. (all that said, I think some sort of exhibition / festival set up will be used)
  19. Because this way they get your money twice. For now, and again in 2022. If they let this money count to 2022 then they only get it once.
  20. I would be pleasantly surprised if students are back in school where I live before Fall 2020. And then I am interested to see whether they pass the kids to the next grade who haven't learned the fundamentals required due to the circumstances of this year.
  21. don't the kids also need to be vaccinated for this to happen safely though? And they are already basically unaffected (statistically) compared to other groups so I don't see how you could justify healthy children be given the vaccine before older people... of course the no school is having disastrous consequences, especially on the children from families without the resources to supplement what the state is providing their child in terms of education. that said, I have seen many teachers unions argue they are being effective teaching from home. I don't agree, but that is their stance. So it is hard to shift from that stance, to a "we need the vaccine first" stance. That is all.
  22. teachers group 1? lol surely not the ones that have argued the last 6 months they can do their jobs just as effectively from home...
  23. so... can Pacific Crest win if they fill up with BD and Vanguard kids? lol
