  1. What rules are we changing? Corps are just adopting different styles.
  2. uh oh guardling be careful, you may trigger another stupid debate over what a perfect score is
  3. Perhaps I should eliminate age from the argument altogether then since it's distracting from my main point. Why is "unusual" and "weird" associated as a bad thing? Why do people feel the need for things to fit in a certain mold? Where will the innovation come from if any little thing that is "unusual" gets shot down?
  4. Remember the last time the Scouts went "big" with contras? Im going to reserve my excitement for when the parade begins.
  5. I knew there would be people like you who would show up haha which is why I added that there will obviously be exceptions. I'm just talking about a general trend, not an absolute.
  6. Why is "bizarre" and "weird" associated as a bad thing with the older crowd? Is there no tolerance for something new and exciting? I'm not trying to bunch a group into one stereotype because obviously, with everything, there are exceptions. But this is the general trend I've noticed on this board.
  7. I absolutely adore Bluecoats' uniform the past 2 years and BD's uniforms since 2008. They've been consistently good. I've never been a huge fan of Crown's unis but Crown 2013 was pretty nice. Didn't like 2014 though. Unis I dont like: any Cadets uni, Pioneer unis, and most of Crown's unis.
  8. Crown 09 is one of the ugliest uniforms I've ever seen.
  9. Disagree. The narration saved that show from being a show with good music crippled by bad staging. I wouldn't ever listen to Cadets 2014 without the narration.
  10. This sounds... Different. Which is a good thing.
  11. "Show concepts can be so arbitrary and so abstract they obscure the emotional and narrative content of the music." You start off with this vague statement but fail to explain WHY or HOW it obscures the emotional and narrative content of the music. Because currently, I'm clueless as to what you mean by that statement. Also what's wrong with a corps wanting to play certain music and needing to tie it together in some way or another? It is analogous to a show being titled Bernstein because the corps only plays Bernstein pieces. Here the corps uses Shostakovich's 10th and decide to call it X. I fail to see how this is different than say, 2011 where the show is called Between Angels and Demons and the corps literally dresses up as Angels and Demons. In this case, the Cadets are just performing in 10s.
  12. I haven't seen many uniforms before 2000 except for very specific years but mine has to be BD 14 (not the colorguard uniforms). That touch of red in their capes was perfect.
  13. Sorry I was tired and worded that wrong. WGI has no doubt influenced DCI (hell, look at all the WGI judges) but they are not the ONLY influence. High school shows and just the natural progression of technology/entertainment plays a part in the changes made to DCI. BUT back to what I was trying to say with my poorly worded response was that I think that the OP is unfairly treating the CHANGES that he attributes to WGI as a bad thing.
  14. 1. He's clearly unhappy with the current state of drum corps so I just used the 80s as an example. Feel free to insert his favorite era into my post instead of the 80s. 2. I'm not sure how stating a fact about some current event has anything to do with falling behind the times in terms of evolving show design. False equivalence much? I think you misinterpreted my message on the "behind the times" comment. 3. I did not say anything about WGI other than the fact that he seems to be unfairly blaming WGI for the evolution of modern DCI which he happens to hate win a burning passion.
  15. I think your narrow-mindedness makes you sound silly. What I got out of your post: "Blah blah blah Im in love with REAL drum corps blah blah blah WGI is ruining drum corps blah blah blah please make shows like you did in the 80s Blah blah blah." This is stupid. Everything evolves. Keep an open mind and give it a fair chance or be left behind. They haven't unveiled any drill or anything, I think you're jumping the gun.
  16. The Bluecoats staff did that on a regular basis this season and were constantly criticized by some a**holes for doing so. My high school band director always went crazy during our shows and I definitely think it's so great to watch the staff appreciate all the hard work they and the whole corps has put in to perfect that big impact moment.
  17. And yet here I am wondering how anyone likes their old stuff
  18. I really don't care who they have in staff, I just chose hope my favorite corps gets their #### together this year and bring us more shows like Faust, On Air, Into the Light, etc.
  19. Assuming that the DVD's are of similar quality to what's given on fan network, I can agree with the complaints about quality. There truly are many spots in shows where they've got the sound balance messed up (one ear louder than the other. Keep in my I am only 19 so the chances of it being my hearing is low). None of the overly-compressed-sounding hits nor the volume balance issues were apparent prior to the edits DCI made.
