Thanks, I’m glad someone said it. That arrangement sounds like a funeral dirge. Also, all those trombones at one point that add absolutely nothing. Academy has had some very engaging shows in the past but this one is a miss, imo. -

My only quibble is the trombone feature should be swapped out with French horns. -

I’m afraid those aren’t good examples you cited. Think about how Hasidic and conservative Muslim communities interact with secular society. They avoid it at all costs and keep things amongst themselves which is totally their right. I highly doubt they would let any of their children be a part of something like drum corps where they aren’t able to monitor their every interaction. -

I would wager the vast majority of the people who did so are dead considering it was 50 years ago. -

We’re not so far apart on this. I’m trying my best not to be cynical about the motivation behind it. -

That’s it exactly. A break from the “meh” attitude, thanks. There’s some very positive feedback on their Facebook page. I want to see this new direction followed up by an internal shakeup, otherwise it’s just change for the sake of change. -

I think if that member approached the administration and still wanted to be a part of the family they would accommodate them. At least that’s what I hope would be the case. That’s like saying the cymbal players that were excluded the year or two Madison axed the cymbal line that those members would not have been welcomed back in another capacity. -

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw them Wednesday. -
I didn’t dislike their show when I saw them Wednesday night. What did stand out was how physically exhausted many of the members appeared at the end of it. There’s a difference between looking spent after throwing down a good performance and just not having the physical stamina.

Or an ad campaign from the late 90’s. -
I was chatting with a gentleman a few years back at finals who had marched ‘09 and ‘10 who told me they had three different show versions in ‘09 and never knew which one they would be performing until show day.
