  1. Not sure who will win, but I'm thinking it will be a close spread. I'm hoping for an SCV win...... but I'm completely biased.
  2. From SCV's website: Housing Information: Vista Murrietta High School 28251 Clinton Keith Road Murrieta, CA 92563
  3. Based solely off the videos on Fan Network, I'm going with SCV and BD. With Cavies too. I haven't liked SCV's pit book the past couple of years, but I love it so far this year. Lots of warmer writing, and some pretty challenging stuff going on. BD's pit has an amazing book as well. Cavies, while I don't really like their book a lot, the textures they are creating are totally making that show for me. They are creating an entire musical mood, and it's fantastic. I can't wait to go on tour so I can see more pits, including Phantom, who I'm sure is rockin as well!
  4. I voted for withholding food. Nothing brings out motivation like the thought of a delicious peanut butter and jelly sandwich. MMMmmmmmm. Go Scouts!
  5. Well, it looks like humor to me. Did you humor-meter break today?
  6. Your wife is awesome, I want to sit with her at drum corps shows from now on.
  7. SCV: Housing Information: Warren High School 8141 De Palma Street Downey, CA 90241 This is the school they stayed at for finals this past summer.
  8. The guard work is seriously awesome. It will be interesting to see how the guard scores when it's a judged caption. The Walnut show was SO much better than Concord. Light years better.
  9. I missed the encore last night, what exactly happened?
  10. I'm hoping that SCV starts closing the gap. I really like both SCV and BD's shows this year. Maybe a California 1-2 finish at finals? I think Academy will be over their first show jitters and step up some more tonight.
  11. I have looked extensively for the shows that people are saying were posted from Walnut, CA. I can watch the Madison ones, but can't see the Walnut shows for any of the corps that were there, even when I go to that particular corps "on the field" tab. I guess I'll take another look tonight when I'm home. Anyone else having this problem?
  12. Actually, most tour busses these days have 54 seats. There is plenty of room for all 150 members, plus alternates. As far as the OP's concern, you can't make kids march somewhere they don't want to march. I didn't make the corps I auditioned for in 99. I stayed home, had a really fun summer, practiced a lot, and then went back and made it in 00. There was no way I wanted to go anywhere else, mostly because it was cost prohibitive, but partly because I knew where I wanted to be. Yes, it is unfortunate that the number of corps is declining. Perhaps we need to have a better way to getting notice to students who are cut from one corps that there are other options for them, if they want. But like I said......... you can't make kids go to a corps they don't want to be at.
  13. Hey, are there any pictures of the Cadets online from this summer? I've seen pictures of just about every other corps that has competed so far, but somehow missed the Cadets....... I look forward to seeing the show!
  14. Love it. I'm hoping that with this time they have between shows, they'll be able to put the full show on the field for the Clovis show on Friday night.
  15. I've gone to the bar early every single year since I aged out (2003). Kinda sad. But..... thank goodness for the Captain!
  16. Beautiful. Good luck this summer, BAC, I'm looking forward to seeing you! (As a BK alum, that's a little hard to say, but it's completely true!)
  17. YEP. Keith said it all WAY better than I ever could.
  18. Well, Keith knows a lot more about BK's goals and situation right now than I do..... As an alum, I want to see BK keep their identity, but also have a lot more audience appeal. With audience appeal, popularity, and higher rankings, comes......... $$$$$. I certainly don't want members to think of them as a "feeder" corps, but if members want to move on after a season, I think that's acceptable. I think pushing higher into the top 12 would be ideal. Go BK!
  19. Very well said! I also left BK for another corps, and I never thought of it as "moving up". I thought of it as using my talent, and learning from new instructors, having a new experience. Good luck to your son this summer, wherever he ended up.
  20. As a member of BK in both 2000 and 2001, I have to say that our drop from finals was almost entirely show design. We scrapped the entire drum break after the first couple shows. It was also a COMPLETE departure from what BK had ever done before. It was kinda like...... "Look at us, we're entertaining, we're not boring, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!". Doesn't work. The members in 2001 were some of the most talented people I've had the pleasure to perform with. I actually had a lot of fun that summer, and learned a lot. I also have to say that the past few years of shows for BK have been somewhat of a disappointment for me. There needs to be more of an attempt at audience connection. As a member, there's nothing better than performing and knowing that the audience totally digs everything you're doing. That being said, I certainly don't want BK to lose their identity. It's a thin line to walk. I was one of the members that "jumped ship". After 2002, I knew that I needed to find another home, but the ONLY reason for that was the pit instructor. He was coming back for the 2003 season, and I knew that I didn't want to ageout having a miserable summer with an instructor that I just didn't connect with in any way. There are, to this day, BK people that hold a grudge against me for leaving. I've made my peace, and I made the best decision for myself. I still love my BK family, and I always will. Go BK!
  21. Hey, I think we marched together at BK...... Technically, you marched and I sat. Nice to see you!
  22. And SCV. I believe Academy's first show is then too.
  23. I love Stadium Bar. In 2002, I spent pretty much all of finals night there. Guess that's what happens when you don't make finals!
