  1. Thank you for the response, N.E. Brigand. Here is my point about the percussion. It doesn't actually matter to me if they are an 11th place line. My whole argument revolves around consistent championship contention. If a corps wants to be in championship contention consistently, you cannot do so with a 7th place percussion line. If the goal is to stay somewhere within the top twelve, no problem. But with how integrated the GE and Music captions are now, it will be difficult to maintain champion level consistently. 7th place is not good if you want to have a shot at top 3 consistently. It great, though, if top 12 is where a corps wishes to stay.
  2. Boy, flammaster. That is a little exaggerated and if I said it, there are certain users that would have my head on a silver platter.
  3. I actually don't use word awful or not good. The standard they should have is championship contender. Until Crown meets this standard, they will stagnate or fall out of the top five, which is sad. The GE and music captions are too integrated for percussion not to seriously harm GE. I actually think 7th was a gift as well. But good for Crown for making adjustments.
  4. Don't mean to be crass, but is topic now tangented into something else?
  5. 84BDsop....Nuff said. Many corps around the country need to look at the staffing and business model of the BD organization and take some notes. I respect the BD business model, the members, and the staffs, although I have not enjoyed one of the A corps' shows in years. There is no denying their effectiveness to run a drum corps on multiple levels successfully and over the long term.
  6. Well...AdamBob, Crown keeps changing the staff to find a long, consistent winning team to build their member talented percussion section. Crown, and most people, who have seen this activity evolve knows that you cannot stay consistently competitive with a 7th place percussion because how blended the GE categories are with the content and achievement of the various playing aspects of the corps.
  7. The percussion members have been good. Nothing else in terms of percussion writing, design, or instructors has been good to them for years now.
  8. Boy...I can't believe how many excuses I am seeing in this forum for Crown's terrible percussion. For a few years now, whether it is the writers, the teachers, or design team, have really let the percussion members down. I'm hoping Mr. Augnst will bring some confidence to the percussion members and put them in contention as they deserve to be.
  9. Actually, Lincoln, and sorry to veer off just a little, but SCV doesn't seem to have this problem. Right now, Crown has no place for percussion. This corps is the paragon of brass w/percussion accompaniment, which is one of the reasons they struggled so this year. I think SCV has a good balance in the lines, and I think with the right arrangements, they could bring back most any music from the past.
  10. Was 1989 Garfield a preshow or just an announcement glitch?
  11. The ballads from 1991 SCV (Miss Siagon). The slow opera moment in 1991 PR. The last 2:30 of PR 2010.
  12. I am a Crown alumi and MANY people have been angry with me about my comments from 5 years ago saying that Mr. May needed to be replaced. I'm not saying he is being replaced now, but I don't believe (personal opinion) that Crown is happy or has been happy with a few key caption heads for a while now.
  13. Kamarag, Ok...I could get sarcastic like you. But, you and I BOTH know that there is a level of truth to what I'm saying. I'm sure most of the staffs of the top 12 and especially the top five are starving to death. See, I can bring the sarcasm as well. The more money the want. The more should be expected from them.
  14. jbeatty89, I am not trying to be difficult or a bum, but what it takes nowadays is money. I think the Crossmen did very well this year. So much of what DCI is now is about money. I wish it was not this way, but it is. Over the last few pages, people have been discussing Madison and the Crossmen. I think they are doing as well as they can based upon the means that their disposal. I am becoming more and more ashamed at how SEEMINGLY greedy various members of staffs are getting and how much the other-oriented perspective (e.g., the members matter) has been taken out of the equation.
  15. Hi Nick, The comment is more about historical longevity. 2008 to today isn't really that long.
  16. Mr. Beddis does not need to return to Crown at all. His lines in 2010, 2011 were no where near top five lines
  17. 88 BD should have beaten Madison. 09 Crown should have beaten BD. 92 Cadets should have beaten the Cavies. 90 Star over the Cadets.
  18. I agree that Mr. Green was a tremedous help at Madison. Their hornline would have made great strides with him in the years to come. Any idea why he is leaving?
  19. I am sooo glad you inform us of this, garfield. It is important for people to understand the DCI is a business and a competitive one at that.
  20. 1992 Crossmen 2013 Carolina Crown 2011 Cadets 1995 Madison Scouts 2010 Phantom Regiment 2007 Crown 2014 Blue Knights 1988 Blue Devils 2013 SCV 1990 or 1991 Star of Indiana No particular order to the list.
  21. Thank you for your thoughts, excellent way for me to look at things, runyancm.
  22. Good points, George. From an entertainment standpoint, Crown is very entertaining to me. But entertainment ALONE is not going to keep them in contention for titles. Some people try to say that titles aren't important or placement isn't important. Let's say that I agree: then why aren't these people that are getting into Crown go to Spirit of Atlanta, or Pacific Crest, or the Academy. Obviously, competition and placement mean something for such talented performers to go to Crown.
  23. See...I wonder why I get criticized George and other so badly simply because I am an alumi when you and others are basically saying similar things that I have been saying? I don't get it.
  24. Dash Fieldpaint, Do forget AdamBob. Technology and communication from 25 years ago and today is much different . I am not finding fault with anyone, but I have not kept up with the members from 90-92 and have received little to no communication from them in the years since. These things happen and again no blame is being assigned by me, but Crown seems MUCH different then than it is today. There were many, many growing pains back then.
  25. AdamBob, Actually, I don't really care what you think quite honestly. Your opinion is just that, YOURS. If what you say is true, it will not be the first nor the last time I am critiqued for my opinion and unless something has changed recently in the US constitution, I am still allowed to have. By the way, in truth, on this forum, only you and Tone Quality have tried to silence my opinion with a "blind loyalist" perspective. I am not that hard to find on this forum and if anyone from the corps wishes to address me, they can message and I will respond. See, I have a theory about posts like the one you put on the forum. The reason you did not message me personally and put this comment more in public is because you, and I speculate, that you would like to somehow embarrass me. I am too old to care about such tactics, if this was truly your intent. Again, as I said to Tone Quality, I will not address any message you put on the public forum when you write in such a manner about me. People have made fun of me before and it will pass, but the funny thing is, those people who do so, in many cases, see some validity in what I say. Right now, I see Crown in the vain of the Madison Scouts and Phantom Regiment. They were fortunate for a title here and there, but they did not sustain their ability to contend. The 2013 was great and I'm happy they received a championship, but can they sustain the ability to contend year after year? Right now, I don't see it this way. Time will tell, but if you can honestly tell me that right now Crown has the staff to contend (e.g., top three or four year end and year out) then I will say that you are reporting something untrue. Right now, and please attempt to be honest, Mr. Harloff and his brass team, have brought the most consistency to Crown. The rest, no. As for being armchair, sure I am. I do not get PAID to design shows. How easily one forgets that staffs now get paid for these positions As much as I appreciate the "blind loyalist" perspective (e.g., anything they do cannot be criticized because I marched with them), I disagree with such an perspective. If you wish to discuss further, I will only in private messaging.
