  1. Thanks, Ghost. He feels good about Jersey Surf, and had nothing but good things to say after their first camp. The issues with Boston are more age/school driven, and will resolve in a few years.
  2. BTW - I had talked earlier about my son looking to audition for Boston this year, but after talking to the corps and looking at their schedule and considering all other factors, we've made the decision not to do so this year. Instead, he'll look to cement a spot with his home-state corps, Jersey Surf. So I won't have any inside information into the Boston program this year to share, but he still has several more years of eligibility to try for Boston later. Good luck, Crusaders!
  3. They had announced at the beginning of November on their website that the show would be ""Featuring music composed and produced by... Debussy Saint Seans Gold Avicii Monk " But they've since removed that article, and no formal announcement of music is on their site now, though I guess the Debussy remains, given the above post. They also seem to have already deleted the subtitle "My Time of Day" from the title: "Midnight", at least as far as their Facebook cover photo.
  4. So many possibilities, from Debussy to Delibes ... from "April in Paris" to "You Must Remember This" (from Casablanca, where "we'll always have Paris") ... from Gigi to Moulin Rouge ... I've mulled over my own ideas for a Paris-themed show in the past - hope they don't use them!
  5. Follow up info from son on the ride home: "The food was good!"
  6. Sum total of texts from my son about today with Jersey Surf: "It was fine; long. We just finished rehearsal" 11:11 pm Guess I'll have to wait until I pick him up tomorrow to hear anything of note.
  7. Dropped off my boy there tonight - hope it's a great camp for everyone!

  10. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they were passed by at finals by the abstract, arbitrary concept "Tilt"

  13. Hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes by starting off the new thread for them, but I'm just getting my son ready to audition with them this weekend. Would love this 25th anniversary year to be a good one for the Surf!
  14. Raiders has announced as well. Need that 2015 Open Class thread!
  15. Announced their 2015 show: MIDNIGHT - My Time of Day Featuring music composed and produced by... Debussy Saint Seans Gold Avicii Monk
  16. It made Drumline 1 look like a great movie.
  17. I might agree with you Lincoln, though there was definitely some stiff competition this season - 2014 was a good year for some nice ballads.
  18. I wonder if that Prelims video is the same one Parks always showed at his DM camps - looks the way I remembered it, anyway
  19. But could he toss it like George Parks? Beginning around 6:15 mark: http://youtu.be/YHW_755-yX4 Edit: See that JimF beat me to the George Parks tribute.
  20. But that's just it - how can a marcher understand the staff person unless and until they've already joined the corps? And I suppose it's not even necessarily about the quality of the staff themselves, as much as it be useful as an indicator of where a corps is headed (are the staff joining to jump on a good bandwagon? or leaving so they don't go down with the ship?). Clearly this is more of an issue with the corps that are not on secure ground, and maybe staff members that haven't secured a national reputation already, so I guess my post doesn't really apply to most (or maybe all) World Class corps. Nevermind.
  21. I just wish there was way to rate all these staff members, so a potential marcher could figure out whether: Staff Member A is great, and voluntarily left Drum Corps 1 to join Drum Corps 2 because they felt Drum Corps 1 is on the way down, and Drum Corps 2 is on the way up; or Staff Member A is not so great, and was not invited back to Drum Corps 1 which is trying to move up, and only landed with Drum Corps 2 because they are falling; Yelp?
  22. Timely article about the top college marching bands, which highlights a lot of USC's historical appearances on the music and film scene.
  23. That's an awfully long time to keep the voting open, given that the next "Friday, 9/21" is in the year 2018 ...
  24. not that I know of, though Kanstul and Yamaha make marching French Horns in Bb
  25. I voted a few days ago for Lexington Corps: Dewsbury Regulars Director: Eleran
