  1. Fair enough— that’s a true point based on the background of the show. I just wish there was a bit more visual impact while being true to the story!
  2. I agree. I actually think that moment is the weakest of the show. Maybe if the hornline did the dancing while the guard spun/tossed equipment?
  3. It really bums me out reading this again. My experience marching drum corps was a fantastic experience. We worked hard, we pushed each other every day, we were treated very well by the staff and administration, they knew when to dig in and push us, but they always did it in a very respectful way. I have zero complaints about how I was treated as a member, and I feel like that is how drum corps is supposed to be.
  4. Man, can’t we make finals the top 15 corps this year? :-)
  5. To be honest, I’m not quite sure I understand the reason why that keeps getting brought up anyway. Is percussion the issue at this point with Phantom Regiment? From my perspective, it’s more of an overarching issue when it comes to show design and general effect, As well as brass arranging.
  6. Yikes.... that is an extremely tough read...
  7. I feel like thinking about the possibility of the Rennicks returning to Phantom is a waste of time. They seem to be very happy and successful at SCV, and they obviously left PR for reasons that would motivate them not to return.
  8. If anyone knows a way to watch recordings of SA, let me know... thanks in advance
  9. I think this is wonderful insight to the types of shows we are seeing this year.
  10. I will first and foremost admit that I have not read this entire thread. However, while I do agree with your comment at some times with some corps, I do feel like the majority of corps are still utilizing a wide dynamic range. Heck, I was watching the Troopers on Saturday night, and was extremely impressed with their dynamics during their ballad, “Both Sides Now”. I would beg the question of if the issue is a dynamic issue, or more of a texture issue when it comes to the true integration of electronics.
  11. I think it has been interesting to watch Phantom over the last six years. I generally don’t like talking badly about corps, and I don’t think I am in this instance because I really do believe this is true, but I really feel like the corps is going through an identity crisis. I do recognize that there is definitely a period of catch-up for every organization as they try to navigate through the new trends of the activity, or I suppose BE one of the trendsetters, but I feel as if Phantom is one of the last corps to catch up on the trends. I watched the entire broadcast of San Antonio this past weekend. I honestly think that there were better designed drum corps shows in the 17th through 11th place range, and as the Phantom show progressed, I think this was very evident. I could see Phantom being overtaken even a couple of spots by the end of the season. Which is hard to imagine, because they are currently sitting in 10th place. I will give credit to the members, as it seems like a fairly talented drum corps. Keep working hard every day!
  12. I’m not sure if that is a fair assumption. Last time I went to the drums along the Rockies show in Denver, if you exited, you cannot get back in.
  13. I sincerely enjoyed watching the San Antonio webcast last night, and I watched every single performance. I am ecstatic about this year of drum corps! Congratulations to all of the corps and their members/staff. As we watch the shows throughout the season, we each have a list of what we like (“what works”) and what we don’t like (“what doesn’t work”) from each corps/show. Seeing everyone back-to-back last night it was interesting to see this with each show. So as we approach our next two regionals and then championships in Indy, I’m curious as to what is on YOUR list of what works/what doesn’t work, and why? This isn’t meant to be a corps/show-bashing thread.... keep things respectful! (Or at least as respectful as we can be in DCP...)
  14. I am very much looking forward to watching the show broadcast this evening. What a great year of drum corps. Best of luck to every performer today!
  15. This Cadet ballad reminds me of the 2006 Cadets ballad
  16. The Colts seem to be a very talented drum corps this year, but I just don’t really understand the show.
  17. I'm sure this has been discussed, but I missed it and don't want to dig: How did DCI determine the few corps that wouldn't be at the show last night?
  18. Any word on the rest of the staff? They announced caption heads a few days ago, wondering who will be on the team
  19. Rumor has it (literally I heard from a friend who heard from a friend who is friends with a recent age out) that there will be some movement with the Troopers visual team.
  20. There were some great brass staff members at BAC (David Klemmer from the Cavaliers comes to mind) over the last few seasons. Is he still going to be around....??
  21. The line needs to be somewhere. It makes sense that it is 12.
  22. Mines cut! ;-) for the record. Any official word from anyone yet about staff?
  23. ^^^ and that's relevant to the discussion why? (Not you, Terri, but the Fuse stuff above yours)
