I think, if anything, you can say electronics were good for the Coats this year.....and they set the bar pretty high for making a BIG statement with electronics. I think that metric will likely add risk for a few years instead of making their use more acceptable.....just my .2

I do feel a bit bad for Cadets this year....I think no matter where they placed (2 or 3) they were going to receive a little collateral damage from the audience and on the internets. But it is what it is.....movement within the top ranks is exciting and good for the activity as a whole, but someone, somewhere is going to pay the price.

Haven't been to finals since 2010.... Sure glad I decided to make the trip this year. It was a great night of entertainment and a great night for the activity.....a night I'll remember for a long time.

First exposure: VHS cassette of '83 finals....wore it out! First live show was Indianapolis 1984.....I remember the Cadets, Lancers and Bridgemen being there. Made the road trip to Madison for finals in '85 & '86......it dovetailed nicely with the last day of High school band camp, so a group of us would drive up to Chicago Friday night to stay with friends and head to Madison on Saturday......good times!!!!

Don't really know how trendsetting the show is from a design standpoint.............but from a selfish standpoint, it has made ME reconsider my views of synths in drum corps. Great season, several really cool shows.....my youngest son is considering trying out for a corps next season, so this season has already been alot of fun for us. Re-awakening some passion from an old guy like me and igniting the passion in my son.......great stuff!!

The flam section in Fanfare is one of those gems I can watch over and over.........really hope this show comes together, LOVE the selections.

I totally understand the OP rant......... Not just as it applies to DCI, but with all things music. In my personal contributions to music, I endeavor to be as organic as possible. As a drumset player, it has been a lifelong search for the perfect 2 & 4........ A well-tuned instrument, played with the perfect touch and with outstanding feel is the goal.......anything else like triggers, backing tracks and digital tweaks, IMO, just gets in the way. However, I am not an in demand player anymore.......the guys I know who are staying busy, have learned to integrate these tools seamlessly into their bag of tricks and still deliver an emotional, organic-sounding performance.........that DOES take a very high level of skill. My point: I think there is some merit in learning to interface and integrate electronic sounds in just about any form of music......it has become an important part of developing as a musician.....I think we've crossed that bridge and there's no going back. I was turned off by the use of electronics in drum corps.........but this year has been a blast so far. I find myself completely in love with the Bluecoats this year and it's got 2 things I hate......in your face electronics and lots of props. Sometimes it takes bold statements to open minds.....consider mine opened.

Wait a minute....you mean there's another 32 counts after the synth stuff? My face melts every time I watch that part so I'm oblivious to anything that happens after.. IMO, the ending is not done yet......the synth bend is so freakin cool that they didn't want to overload us just yet.

Long time lurker....... Just want to say a big THANK YOU to Bloooo this year. This show has already seperated me from some of my hard earned money.........tickets, shirts, hats, FN....and led to a gastric miscalculation at a concession stand. Alot has already been said about the content, but what impresses me most is how much the kids seem to enjoy performing it.......I've only seen video because of a rainout, but the love of the show comes through quite clearly. Drumline is ridiculous!
