I think a better question is: Does eliminating C2 (a corps with majority local HS members) improve relationships between local HS directors and USBands? Perhaps YEA needs to move their HQ to Florida or Texas.

Within hours of the announcement on Wednesday, I believe those who came to the November camp to audition for C2 received an email with options of 1) requesting a partial refund or 2) coming to the December camp to audition for Cadets. Those who have already paid for the December camp can request a full refund. Actually, I think where the damage was done stems from what the kids heard last season the few times a YEA board member came to a C2 show -- "unity", "the rumors that C2 will be disbanded are false", "you are all Cadets" -- it all rings hollow today. If Doug Rutherford or anyone else on the YEA board has made a video specifically addressing the C2 members, staff and volunteers to thank them for all their hard work and commitment to excellence, and that they will be missed -- well, I must have missed it.

What I was saying is that I don't find the breakouts in the 2016 990 to be accurate, when one compares them to 2014 and 2015. The breakouts for 2016 that you reference in Part 3 of the form, have no descriptions. When I reference the 2014 and 2015 detail, it suggests that C2 only operated at a $110k loss in those years. I'd hate for someone to think that C2 was axed to save $110k -- because I'd expect there will be a bigger impact to the bottom line from the money generated by the liquidation of C2 assets.

Yeah, 2016 looks sloppy. The 2016 form was prepared by a different CPA firm (Kreisher Miller in Horsham) than in 2014 and 2015 (Buckno Lisicky in Allentown). If you look at 2014 and 2015, USBands runs at about 475k in the black, Cadets about 360k in the red, and C2 110k in the red. But I don't think you can say eliminating C2 only generates a 110k gain, because as others have mentioned, this doesn't consider revenue from selling off all the C2 assets.

I don't think that's the correct way to interpret the 2016 990 Revenue: US Bands shows $2,294,191 Drum corps shows 1,489,619 Program sponsorship income 710,054 Performing ensembles 325,203 Total revenue (line 9) $4,819,067 Does the $325k for performing ensembles represent member tuition for all groups?

Which was I speculated that if YEA ever decides to field another corps, it would be as Open Class, not through DCA. Considering all that's happened, I'd doubt that YEA (with emphasis on the Y) would be likely to associate again with an all-age activity.

I'm not sure C2 was 10% of the budget. I read from the announcement that the $600k deficit represented 10% of the total budget (i.e., $6 million).

Probably not to DCA. Perhaps open class? No idea, just speculating.

I don't know about most schools, but my kids' band competes in weekly contests where often there might be only one or two schools in a class - - yet there's physical trophies given for each caption in a class. The band accumulates a lot of these smaller caption trophies. At the year end banquet, they have a tradition of gifting these caption trophies to seniors., usually each senior chooses a particular one! It ends up almost like a Yankee Swap.
