  1. NO, this made for more fun in the season, since you never knew what would happen from day to day.
  2. No, we shoudl still allow Div2/3 corps in D1 Prelims....If a D2/3 corps is better (the director has better number management), it's only fair....
  3. I haven't read the entire thread, but... Star was Star and Crown is Crown. I'm sure they're not trying to be the next anything. Crown is definitely carving their own niche for themselves in the drum corps world with an incredible staff and lots of great talent. I'm 99.9% sure though, that they're not striving to be another Star, no corps will ever be Star, just like no corps will ever be the Cavaliers or the Blue Devils or even Pioneer or some little Division 3 corps. Every corps has their own identity, and I can't stand people trying to recreate them.
  4. You probably play trumpet, don't you? I really disagree. At times screaming trumpets can detract from the hornline. IMO, those trumpets that hold over the cutoff and just arbitrarily bust out with high notes are practicing bad musicianship. Now, i'm not bashing on screamers....I dig them as much as the next guy, it's just that at times it can detract from the horn sound. IMO, a good hornline is one that is completely balanced, not top-heavy or bottom heavy. Obviously they have to have impeccable timing, clean and crisp articulations, and some AWESOME arrangements.
  5. Exactly...I'm pretty sure that they've completely fixed the problem. I think that this is great for D2/3, since it will get them more exposure (show up early to D1 quarters/semis and pay a little bit more and watch a bunch of corps!). Also the corps get to perform in Camp Randall. I'm 99.9% sure that they've remedied the issues with Division Champion/World Champion, since World Championships are on Saturday. The former divisional championships are now labeled "Semi-Finals"
  6. Heh...have we seen these anywhere yet? Any info on them?
  7. Not trying to start rumors, just asking a question..... Also, I'm pretty sure Premier isn't trying to get out of the marching percussion buisness, but we'll see in a year or two.
  8. Just noticed something...I looked up Mission Viejo HS's Band website, and found a link to Mike Jackson's personal website, http://www.jacksonpercussion.com/ Something interesting from there: Could we see a switch from SCV anytime soon?
  9. I really hope they go back to the tilted drums, it really became a defining characteristic of the SCV drumline. It will definitely be interesting to see where things go with this new staff. Anyone up for some Brass Staff announcements?
  10. Already know who my top plays will be: 1) SCV 2) Cadets 3) Regiment 4) Carolina Crown 5) Blue Devils Still waiting to hear Bluecoats, I'm sure they'll be in there!
  11. I'm going to claim Austin, TX again for FUSION...it'd be sweet if we could get it as a Regional again too....
  12. Wow...I haven't checked up in here in about three months! after my worst season in dcp-i EVER Anyways, Steve, if you still need someone to design the dcp-i/a logo, I can do that!
  13. Didn't you read that post a few posts back. Casella never had much to do with the technique program at SCV, that was Gusseck (and Ralph Hardimon, but he's gone now). After talking to one of my band directors who tends to know, it seems like Casella's title as "Caption Coordinator" just means he'll be hiring all the staff to work with the drumline, but he won't be the one out on tour working the drumline and such. I'm sure he'll play a big role though. Casella is going to write some sweet grooves for The Cavaliers!
  14. Wow...just WOW! Cavie drumline is going to be unstoppable now! But why do they call him the Caption Coordinator. Is he not the caption HEAD, or is it the same job, different title?
  15. I was watching some of the videos from BD's live coverage of finals http://www.bluedevils.org/tty/index.php?ye...&page=video.php and if you watch the Phantom Warm-Ups clip, you'll see that they are playing Canon in D in the lot...How sweet! I dunno if this is allowed or not, but does anyone happen to have a recording of them playing that? If this isn't allowed, mods, feel free to delete this.
  16. VK92 probably goes for the LOUDEST. I remember reading on the story of VK92 during the Classic Countdown that the audience actually blew out one of the recording mics!
  17. As far as I know, even though the drum majors have to hang behind, the corps are able to get changed, eat, socialize etc., all in the time that they'd be in retreat, so that way the drum majors come out, get changed, socialize a bit and they can hit the road.
  18. The camps are in Cedar Park, Texas which is just north of Austin.
  19. Yes, it seemed really muffled and VERY VERY VERY pit heavy.
