  1. lest ye forget . . 2002 Finals Night edit: at :37, Brad Andrews solo; sadly we lost Brad last year. Those who knew him will never forget a great friend, kind soul and SCV stalwart.
  2. I don't know where to post after viewing 1/4's in Marlborough, MA. last night. I'm ridiculous and random so, this will work fine. Bring it all on; woodwinds, DSP enhanced didgeridoos, amplified rainstick SECTIONS, all good, no rules except how long is your show and . . whatever. When SCV did the Rose Bowl in '04 people were clamoring,"They're going to call us a band!" Over a million people on the route, for 99.875% we WERE a band. The only thing that defines us anymore is the affiliation, or lack of school affiliation, the summer tour aspect, the level of excellence and the words "corps" and "bugle". So effing what. I hated the amplified keyboard bass notes that all but obfuscated 20+ TUBAS! I hated the sampled music and voices in Cavies show. Did it enhance the show? Certainly, depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is. I don't care anymore. I'll support the activity whatever it's called. I'll wear my jacket. I lose my fecal matter at killer drill moves and tear up at great musical moments and poignant "flag team" features. Design the high-end gloves with holes in the fingers and get it over with. Drum corps is dead. Long live summer pageantry competition.
  3. Hey! Will youse all have their housing locations? Really wanna see them rehearse here in MA. ty =) edit: just found it on their site, they don't have the Amherst, MA location posted yet.
  4. nice one Sorry if this was covered but, what if #7 is having a rough season and #8 is less than politically connected: who's to say the powers that be would influence the adjudicating community to retain the status quo? As with any structure, when you only focus on the top of the pyramid the foundation will erode.
  5. I would respond to this but if I did, Chris Nalls would give me such a pinch! yes, and . . i fix for you
  6. Because it rules. My '82 aussie is hanging in my office at home. I recently disassembled it and thoroughly vacuumed it off and it looks great. I thought I'd have to have it blocked. My faded green feather is still holding on but I do find stray barbs floating around occasionally.
  7. No one classier. Hope everyone had a great weekend and a safe trip home.
  8. Thanks for weighing in, my head is loaded with crap I've heard through the years from various sources, nice to know I can put that one to bed.
  9. OK, I was going to post "tongue in cheek" to wit, "How can you people say this about a 5th place show?!" But then I saw Jeff and Maggie and Moe, my heros, posting and that was right out. GR did like to win, he was known to gripe about scores but not to or in front of the kids. Yes, Mr. Fiedler deserves praise but let's not forget Jeff Pearson and all the staff, board and management that have stewarded this tradition through the years since Mr. Royer's passing, a huge responsibility in a high pressure environment. And I want the kids to know we all support you but don't forget, we envy you too, we all wish we could be out there again :molar dust: =P As a lead bari in '82, I must (tongue back in cheek) say we should have left it there and never, ever have revisited that music, how silly. Go back and listen to how the push is loud but, almost unbelievably, gets louder, followed by those beautiful sounds quietly reverberating through Olympic stadium. wow . . I saw a "Behind the Star" on the bass drum line and they had a clip from the show ( I didn't get to see them live this year :more molar dust:) and I was so jacked to see that classy, relaxed SCV marching style back; effortlessly gliding, very natural and *ahem* classy.Charlie Anderson would say, "March Like Gods" . . can't wait for '10 and SCVAC '12
  10. I have heard . . . There was something to do with the Muchachos being in possession of a Cavies flag that precipitated the "outing" of the over-agers. Re: Muchachos being a feeder for the Cabs, that Cos on occasion would go out of his way to dispel that rumor claiming no real affiliation between the corps.
  11. I have a couple and I was a lead bari (I also have a '78 snare I bought from the player, a high school friend; it's been in an Anvil case, played regularly, ever since. The DC-10's I play with are taped like the line did.)
  12. some good points here but, seeing Rob Carson's last I&E performance was perhaps one of the most dramatic moments I've ever witnessed.
  13. lol, from an '82 SCV alumweird, I was out for a walk today, haven't been playing attention too much but I saw a "Behind the Star" last week and you could see the classic SCV marching style is back and I was thinking about how I was lobbying Jeff Pearson last year to bring back the white bucks and a more subtle double white strip on the pants . . he gave me a funny look and sighed.
  14. excepting the folding beach kind for use in VK retreatishness
  15. 1> Condolences, we often take for granted our physicality. B> My pop was a physician and I grew up thinking chiropractors were quacks. I had a muscle issue from bike riding, couldn't move without pain, saw a chiro and have been seeing them ever since. Per what John Z said: I wonder if an adjustment might help.
  16. 2 from '82 SCV from the staff. After the middle horn fanfare at the start of Capriccio Espagnol you can hear Gail laugh. That was the only time they'd played it perfect all season. In the drum feature that follows you can hear Ralph let out an "0ooo!".
  17. Exacty that reason IMHO.The shows are designed with finals night in mind, sometimes they run out of season or the bar is set too high. That being said, I really believe no one knows how to "win" a season better than Dave, Wayne and Pete. And I don't understand why staffs (grammar Nazis?) don't do like the blue. Clean wins.
  18. third . . *sigh*the white bucs really made it, black sox made 'em pop. I remember how people were surprised at how "cheap" the tunics seemed up close. They were made of polyester sewn by the corps moms. They also made the gauntlets I beeleev. Some people were surprised the stars were plastic . . The pants were wool uni pants. How cool and ahead of their time were Prince?
  19. OMG, I dint even read the thread but I need to post this just to unburden myself because I felt terrible. So, '99, the only shot I would've had to see the Vanguard live was DC. They looked to be on their way to a title. So I called my then friend who marched in Live Oak with me and lived there, bought my tix on SW and headed down. Steve is an eccentric gentleman and I was prepared for fun but not this. Madison, playing JCS, in the middle he decides to sing along. "Steve, come on, man, this is not funny" Now, in full voice, he continues. "Quit it!", says I. Finally I had to elbow him hard in the ribs right as the folks in front got really agitated. I apologized profusely which he seemed to enjoy. Funny in retrospect but not in the moment . . . . there, I feel better.
