  1. JD's a tremendous brass arranger. There were many wonderful moments in the show from that perspective, and the horn line did a very capable job with a complex horn chart. And the drum line played another great book, which fits nicely among their recent work over the past several years, and did so with panache and clarity. More right than wrong, musically! It's going on the iPod. With good reason!
  2. I'm sorry, really, but I'm not sure how BAC and Blue Stars and what they accomplished is particularly relevant to a discussion or appreciation of what Regiment accomplished this summer. If you are talking about how the judges ranked them, yep, the judges agree with you. But the judges' opinions have very little to do with whether or not I'll listen to the show now or whether the members did their best with the product and were "successful". Being 9th takes absolutely nothing away from you, unless you live for judges and their rankings. And I've never known any Regiment corps to live primarily for judges or rankings (including the ones that have won). Mostly, you march Regiment because you want to march Regiment. If the corps happens to do well with the judges, then fantastic! But it's more about being the best Regiment corps possible, with the show and the members you have. And so, 2009 is a success--perhaps a more difficult kind of life lesson than last year's competitive success with Spartacus, but nevertheless a summer with much one can draw on. Mostly, I would think, about deciding what really matters to you, and reaching down when you feel like you have nothing left to give and putting out your best effort--giving the crowd something to embrace. Design issues or not. And the crowd agreed, for the most part--certainly no shortage of applause or cheers in Indy. As for the scores and the Miley Cyrus Disneyfied retreat in that tin can of a stadium, I didn't stick around, so have fun discussing the scores, I guess.
  3. I'm pretty sure that our old food truck hasn't been replaced.
  4. Sound quality was completely unacceptable for drum corps purposes in Lucas Oil. It wasn't even passable. Revenge of the RCA Dome (a show I went to once, and never again...sensing a pattern forming with Indianapolis shows).
  5. Tony Hall is frequently around to help "fix" things at some point, but as a designer in his own right, the man's a genius, IMO. He's got creativity that leads to drills that leave a lasting visual impression.
  6. Great thread...I've always wondered what some of these rings looked like.
  7. Yeah, really...I'm very interested to know when various corps are stepping off since I will be arriving in Indy after it has started (and will be trying to get downtown quickly to see it).
  8. Personally, I'd like to see this Avante Noodle Corps.
  9. 88's probably not the best example...the order was all screwed up with that "lucky draw" order of appearance stuff they did. It made for strange viewing on the original tapes.
  10. REGIMENT: To end the season, alumni and friends of the Phantom Regiment will be getting together, as we do every year, just prior to DCI finals. This year the event will be held on August 8th from noon - 5:00 PM at the Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery, 10 West Washington Street in Indianapolis which is located about 4 blocks north and 2 blocks east of Lucas Oil Stadium. Please plan to join us in the Billiards Room, aka basement, and come hungry! Thirsty never seems to be an issue! 11. Some artifacts (could be my connection, which isn't that great either)...some audio clipping, but you know what? I'm good. Thanks for streaming rehearsal for us!
  12. No doubt, but I assure you no score is being gifted to Regiment....they too are "working for it." To me, it shows...they have improved dramatically...they're a different drum corps from what they were a month ago. But really, everybody's earning it this summer, with all this sickness, bad weather...ick.
  13. Here's the thread: http://www.bluestars.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=8775
  14. The VIP stuff sounds like a pretty sweet deal. And I'm staying at the Omni...might have to get in on that.
  15. That's awful. I will send a little $ to help. Hope everything gets back in place for this weekend. Their paypal link is here if anyone is interested in helping out... http://www.bluestars.org/support/index.php#donate
  16. My one regret about missing Allentown was missing the Bridgemen. It sounds like the principal complaint is the length of the exhibition. I'm thinking about DCI semis and there's often a historical-type exhibition, and I think that tends to go on for about the same length of time, doesn't it? I'm trying to remember how long Cavies played last year, but frankly I can't...I was having too much fun watching it and enjoying the performance. Anyone know? There have been other ones, too...and some of them seemed pretty long. But again, I haven't kept stats...too busy trying to enjoy whatever DCI decides to put in front of me. I miss retreats...the real ones....but I'm never going to complain about an extra five minutes of an exhibition. Especially when it might be something I'll be enjoying the memory of for a long time (as with some of those semis performances...wow...take as much time as you need...the scores can wait).
  17. We thought so, too. But it's correct. http://tinyurl.com/mmg845
  18. Crown was incredible. '07 has one of my favorite Regiment shows ever. But overall, meh.
