  1. Someone needs to post a wine review. Like which one should I order? I'm thinking that cabernet.
  2. I consider myself a fan of some pretty obscure music, and having Regiment play our pal Loris might well have resulted in me listening to more of his work and buying performances of his compositions. Regiment's funny like that--it always works that way for me. The little drum corps from Rockford is exceptional at educating people on the power of serious music. At least I think so. But I won't exactly be hitting up amazon for his tunes now, you know? kthxbye.
  3. I'm quite confident that Regiment has made the best choice for its horn students--and that they will sound every bit the Regiment hornline. I have no worries about this...JD knows his stuff. Jupiter just entered a new era in its history, that's for certain.
  4. Yeah! In for the bundle! And that is a great deal on the 07-08 bundle too! I really want to see that 07 dvd...i've been jonesing to see that since that season ended. I love that show!
  5. I had the original track come up on my ipod a week ago and I thought how much I wish it could've sounded more like Crossmen. Chuck's HOTD is a drum corps CLASSIC, IMO. I can remember quite fondly my jaw hitting the ground when I saw it live. LOVED IT! Where is Chuck, anyway?
  6. Nothing on the actual field in three years...but, before PRC's final show in 90, I snapped my chrome dynasty sop to a horns up in the warm up arc, and the whole dang horn fell apart. After being great all summer. Several of the bracings came loose and it became un-horn-like. It was unplayable and refused to be held in playing position. hilarious. I was like "A little help, please?" So they ran and borrowed me a horn from Northern Aurora and I was able to play the show and the solo. Freaked me out though.
  7. This is very interesting...I like the ending of 2001 (Festive Overture) and the beginning of 2002 (the 10th...right? someone?). The 2002 show had the heavy drill demands for (relatively) little effect. Last year on G? 2000 has my favorite all-time ballad transfigured night so it's impossible for me to overlook it. And "Rite of Spring" is great, too. IMO. But the drill is, em, yeah. it changed a lot over the summer didn't it?
  8. Based on my own random criteria: 1. 2007 2. 2008 3. 2003 4. 2004 5. 2006 6. 2002 7. 2000 8. 2005 9. 2001
  9. LOVE this idea and I hope they make extra DVDs because I'd love to see that.
  10. Oh wow, with the epic fails. Seriously. I suppose the St. Louis Cardinals were just as untrue to winning the World Series when they offered the fans an opportunity to buy a ring to celebrate the win. I didn't buy one of those but I though the sentiment was really sweet. None of the fans ever picked up a bat or caught a pop-up but that's not why they made the offer. It looked kinda like a championship ring. It's not like fans are going to say "Yup, this is my World Series ring." Most of them probably wouldn't even wear it. But people like keepsakes of things that made them happy. It's not a member championship ring. It's a ring celebrating the win. Maybe Regiment cared about the fans and wanted to show something for all that love they got during the summer. If you feel that strongly about it--about the show and maybe it meant a lot to you and all that--then maybe you should buy a ring and wear it all you want. I visit DCP and read this topic and it's like people are committing "drum corps fraud" by buying a keepsake ring. Or random stuff about it being about money like they are going to sell tons of them at that price (which is kinda pricey, so that's highly unlikely). Is everybody really that jaded? I call BS on this. Outside our little hobby it's just a wonderful activity for young people that teaches about music and leadership, if people will even listen to you talk about it. People don't give a crap who won and when i've tried to explain the concept of judging it people are incredulous. It's a ring--the real ones are important to the members who wear them because of what they stand for--but this is not that. This is a keepsake. Maybe a way for some people to feel a little bit of that glory. Good for them...there's plenty to go around. And people were in tears about this show...there was an emotional connection for long time fans and new fans alike. It was rare and beautiful and worth remembering however people want to remember it. It also doesn't cheapen anyone else's championship ring (how ridiculous). If it does cheapen "the ring" then I'd love to hear about people who go chasing "the ring" and forget things like loyalty and friendship and family in search of jewelry. People are more important than things. Of course, there are those that say they marched when they didn't, but they're going to say that anyway without the help of this commemorative ring, and they're going to keep doing it, so you might as well get used to it. Drum corps people are stars--and people want to be like you--or some of them are just pathetic and want attention. Can't fight human nature but you can try to understand it. If anything is crappy, it's this activity being so jaded.
  11. They played "You'll Never Walk Alone" when my grandfather passed away. In the midst of our overwhelming grief, I heard that song, and it comforted me. Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart. My condolences and prayers.
  12. I'd personally love to hear Devils do a Roland Kirk show--I think they'd tear it up. Especially "Domino" but there's tons of stuff.
  13. Yes X 3. I'm also a big proponent of SCV playing Adams.
  14. When I saw them competing against Regiment this summer, I couldn't help but give this a lot of thought. Here's a great drum and bugle corps...classy on the field and off and highly competitive. Strong in all respects now, but rough and tumble enough to earn my respect over the years. They have picked themselves up and dusted themselves off, reinvented themselves with everything pretty strong across the board (guard/brass being a highlight) and it's apparent that they mean business. Neat shows that are appealing to fans and judges alike; people are really excited when they are on the bill for the show. This is a corps that has a buzz going, but they've been working toward it...it's a momentum thing. If they believe that the win is inevitable, then maybe it is. This summer, I firmly believed that Regiment would win only if they thought it was inevitable--that it WOULD happen. They practiced like winners, sure, but it's something even more than that. We talk about competition, but corps compete against themselves. They can, IMO, defeat themselves, more than any other group can. Semifinals, I dunno, the members just looked different. They looked to me like they had it in their minds, even if maybe they didn't actually believe it happened after it did. That part doesn't matter. What matters is that they were ready to compete for it. They did not defeat themselves. Is Crown ready to really compete for it? Yup. They did this year, IMO. Just more steam needed toward the end... I've had the pleasure of speaking with some of their volunteer folks, and I've always been impressed with their approach. They seem very member-focused and are about trying to give their members, first and foremost, an excellent experience for their drum corps dollar. But they are knocking on the proverbial door now, so who knows...they're a great group, though, and I wish them nothing but luck!
  15. I will say that it is a shame that 07 has no DVD, because it is one of my favorite Regiment horn books, ever. JD really outdid himself with that show.
  16. Yes, you are correct. And actually, I do have it. Just haven't watched it since I bought it, I guess. Time to give that one a(-nother) look!
  17. Great show announcing, though, when I was there. Lynn, MA right?
