  1. Yesterday was the first day I actually read the guidelines. The result I got from that was thinking the moderators really are "moderate" - not iron fisted.
  2. I would like to point out that trolling is against the guidelines for this forum. https://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/index.php?/guidelines/ "--flaming or trolling posts"
  3. I'm going to stop. Up until this point I have given you the benefit of the doubt that you may not have been exposed to the reality of social media or this forum. I suspect you are someone who was banned previously who has come back to cause trouble.
  4. I really wish DCI would operate it's business based on DCP polls.
  5. I know you want the short season to occur. Good for you. Your seem quite determined. I want to win a million dollars. Every week I hope for the million dollars. I also want the dream car I've been looking at for years. Every week I want that dream car
  6. These groups are not flush with cash. I hope that as a result of this experience "rainy day" funds are increased for the next "inevitable." Has DCI sent a questionnaire to it's fan base to ask what their attitudes are to any proposals for a shortened 2021 season and their willingness to participate in it? For me, that would be a critical requirement as to whether any proposal moves forward.
  7. I love the idea, but I keep thinking we have lost a bit of the magic that makes shows like this so memorable. I would prefer to keep this on it's own as something so many appreciated. This is from 28 years ago. G-bugles, no electronics, so much melody and 1 prop (just a large beach ball that looks like the planet). The show personifies the idea that the total is greater than the sum of it's parts. Imagine 28 years later and so much love for this show. It would be nice if every show had the same effect.
  8. Fixed the first line because it's not just those threads that get shut down. The activity requires a lot of planning and support. It needs to generate significant revenue to support itself. A full season generates that kind of revenue (famous last words I know). I can't help but think aiming to produce "something" will be much more expensive and not produce that revenue - further jeopardizing the survival of many corps. As for the label "Bubble" mentioned in another thread....three thoughts come to mind: 1. Mr. Bubble (fun, sudsy) 2. Boy in the Plastic Bubble (heartbreaking, sad) 3. Hamster Ball (just don't let it reach the top of the stairs)
  9. DCP has missed so many members lately. Mike's passing has brought many back in dedication to his contribution to the activity. Skevinp referenced early DCP in a prior post to another new member. He was right in many ways. I see many long lost contributors who gave tribute to MB.
  10. Michael would post on here all the time. Always positive. So often hilarious. He had such a wit. I did not know what he was going through up until yesterday. I have just read his Facebook postings and he seemed at peace with what he was going through. That made reading them so much harder. I remember his dedication to his brother, sometimes mentioned on here. Let's be kind to one another. We don't know what everyone else is going through.
  11. I had not seen that one before so thank you for the reference - that was so cool!
  12. 1981 Santa Clara Vanguard - Mike Zapanta Unfortunately the video I found cannot be embedded so you will have to click on the link below. Vanguard had one Drum Major that year. He was just so smooth. I watched him when they were in Hamilton, Ontario and was in awe at how polished he was. He made it look so easy. The example shown is from their "Young Person's Guide" piece. Look at his legs as he is conducting from a time when Drum Majors marked time on the podium. They are so straight that they look like pistons. The white bucks make it even more visible. At the 1:20 mark as Vanguard transitions into their percussion solo, he gets off the podium, walks to the left hand side and watches for the entire duration of the solo. That percussion section was so well oiled they didn't need a Drum Major during their solo so he didn't even pretend. He gets in front of the podium at the 2:05 mark, does some sort of a salute and then back on the podium for the brass entry. At the 2:30 mark he gets off the podium again as Vanguard rotates the form from right to center field. At the 3:10 mark he makes his way to center field, turns around and conducts each section of brass as they proceed forward. At the 3:50 mark he's back on the podium conducting the dual time signatures at the end of the piece. https://youtu.be/8eFbOEmPReQ
  13. As much as it seems easy to pinpoint current issues with a specific generation, there are so many faults across them all. The news is full of people from older generations acting like idiots. Every time I think of a generalization I've proving wrong and for some reason it happens soon after I make it. What I can't stand is the attitude that people are expendable based on their age.
  14. As many things are controlled by the states themselves, does your federal government even have the jurisdiction to force a nationwide shutdown? My first thought is they do not. However, every time I think I understand your system of government, I am proven wrong. Here our provinces control the issue. Our federal government does not have that jurisdiction - then again maybe i'm wrong. It has however provided much needed support to citizens affected by this issue. We are at the end of week 7 of our 2nd lockdown in my province. Bars, restaurants, museums, gyms, cultural events, theaters are closed. Stores and schools are not. We have social restrictions in place. If you live alone, you are allowed one visitor at a time. If you live with someone you are not allowed social visits in your home but you can accept one person who is there to provide a service - ie. repair person, etc. One week away from the 2nd extended deadline and reported cases have increased. I assume that it will once again be extended. Mental health is severely taxed here. I am hoping that while some restrictions remain in place to curb the spread, the social restrictions ease up a bit.
  15. The logistics and expense requirements of a short season in 2021 will make things worse financially. Corps need attendance to make it work. We are about to go through a winter of hell. JMO.
  16. Is there are chance you are confusing Neil Pert with Madonna?
  17. Did Felix Unger march in Buccaneers? Was he woke? Did "woke" exist as a term back then? Was the phrase back then actually "He's hip, he's cool, he's 45!" If this is off topic, there are throngs of forum members who will report it to the moderators only to have this post removed. ...and we will once again have absolutely nothing to talk about on this forum.
  18. I hope Courtney sees a lot more of WGI. This is the show I would have shown her if I had $100 to spare during these times.
