  1. Ask Fran Haring, he can probably clothe the entire corps with his wardrobe.
  2. 2001 Brigs is still the ultimate for me!!! That closer with all the snare drums and concert basses was unreal.
  3. 2000 Cabs!!!! The Three Sopranos!!! That performance at Prelims was for the ages. I remember watching music judge Vic Chester after the last note look at one of his judging counterparts and mouthing the words, "Holy $&%*"
  4. Music of Maynard Ferguson!!!!!!!!!! No contest!!!!!!!!!!
  5. I went with Empire 2001. That crowd was electric in Syracuse for those two shows. Vince Bruni as Sinatra leaving through the fog was such a memorable moment!!
  6. 2001 Bush Raging River was a good show and all, but I think we have some excellent choices here. Went with Inspires, but strong cases can be made for others. Too bad you couldn't monitor it so you couldn't vote for a show or corps you represent, would make it more interesting than a corps popularity contest.
  7. $1 to Jeff Ream.........seriously......$1 to Jeff Ream, he's broke.
  8. 1990 Star of Indiana 1991 Phantom Regiment 1992 SCV (Gail Royer's last year and Fiddler) 1993 Madison Scouts (first Finals corps to march in rain) 1994 27th Lancers Reunion Corps (There were so many people on that field, I think I did march in that corps) 1995 Madison Scouts 1996 Les Etoiles 1997 Madison Scouts (Les Etoiles if I could sit in zero gravity drum machine) 1998 Cadets (I guess I wouldn't mind one ring, and it was a cool show) 1999 Madison Scouts
  9. When I started going to drum corps shows, I used to read the program before the show started, and put it down until I wrote in the scores afterwards. Nowadays, more often than not, I need the program to figure out exactly what is going on. To me, that's one of the biggest problems. I think judges are rewarding show designs, and student execution is taken as an afterthought. Just two cents that may or may not have stayed on topic.
  10. Greetings. A friend of mine who does not have access to a computer asked me to try to find a video for him. The video would be that of Dutch Boy from 1986. If anyone has this and would be able to make a copy, I would appreciate it. Please PM me if you have any luck with this. Thanks!!
  11. One of these years, doctors will be able to cure that poor guy's arm already.
  12. Wow, the stunning return of former WWF Superstar and Canada's Greatest Athlete, "Iron" Mike Sharpe to the drum staff. I wouldn't mess with them at critique or they'll get that wristpad right in the nose.
  13. Poor choice of words. Blessing in disguise would've been more like it!!!! Thanks for showing me the way.
  14. There's just so many to choose from, but I'll try to pick one or two not on here. DCA: 1992 Les Mets Explosion was great each year they played it, but 1992 was like an announcement that they meant business. 5th place finish fi I recall in their 2nd season (of only 4 sadly) DCI: 1996 Blue Devils - first 20 seconds or so. I recall them winning the second of two nights in Allentown. I did my best to get a 50 yard line seat for the encore after the show. Unfortunately, so did the entire stadium. I ended up on the track right in front of a marimba, dead center of the horn arc. I don't know if I've ever felt as much power as I did during that entire encore, but that intro was sick!!
  15. This will not be specifically a review of the entire weekend, though I did manage to see every corps on Saturday, and all butabout three of the alumni on Sunday, but will cover some of the highlights of the weekend for me. Weather - awesome!!!!!! Sun Devils with as Fran Haring called it, the wake-up call of Saturday. This corps was a pleasant surprise. Their middle number that got the crowd to its feet was definitely a wake-up call and a lot of fun as a spectator as well. Thought this group finished closer to Finals than they did. Sunrisers did a nice show. Was reading online about what a disaster this was at the start and there was very little evidence of this come Labor Day. Another corps that made a strong showing despite missing Finals. Govenaires rocked. The class of Class A! Hot for Teacher on a football field was definitely a first for me. John Mayer makes each audience member feel like they are a part of the show. Corps Vets made vast improvements between Saturday and Sunday. I had them 12th on Saturday, but they showed Sunday why they belonged with a much-improved, exciting performance. Alliance, to me, was the surprise of the weekend. Honestly, I had them 6th, and close. I know people say dues don't really need to be paid in this activity, but my hunch is if this were anything but Alliance's first year in open class, they'd have been even higher. Awesome show(s). One More Time Chuck Corea courtesy of the Renegades. My favorite drum corps song of all-time, with a little twist. I think one of the sop soloists hit a triple-high H near the ending. The top five on Sunday was one of the best I recall. It was a virtual can you top this of performances. From Cabs on up, everyone stepped up their game to a new level. Hadn't had that much fun in a long time at a Finals show. Cabs Alumni on Sunday was amazing. I would've paid a full-price ticket just to hear them do their forty second warm-up. Seriously, I would've. Bridgemen unleashed a sense of power about triple to that of their home show in June. They brought it big time to a crowd that wanted more of everything. There's probably much more, but this is enough to add to what others have already written. Read Drum Corps World for my full review of Finals on Sunday.
  16. Holy crap, it is "Iron" Mike. Hope that arm injury healed after all this time. (True wrestling fans know what I mean)
  17. I said it to my sister on Sunday night, the next corps to beat the Bucs will be Alliance. Yes, I know, pretty crazy prediction..........but let's face it, if anyone said five years ago that the Bucs would go undefeated for five straight, well that would've been pretty crazy too. Predictions are more fun if you go out on a limb.
  18. Haven't seen your name on here in a while, and whenever I do, I have to ask. Is this former WWF wrestler, Canada's Greatest Athlete, Iron Mike Sharpe???
  19. Which one, the alumni spectacular shirt or the finals shirt, both of which were different? Or are we referring to the MnM from Prelims!!!
  20. section 107, row j, seat 11 both nights and alumni. Good times!! I was sitting next to Hank (who I don't think was with your group either).
  21. Sweet, that was me!!!!! After reading these pages a lot, Jim, I had a hunch that was you probably in either the same row as me or the row is front. I was met with the slow Adam chant early in the night and various other musings. You guys were a blast to watch the show with, everyone in my group had a great time at Finals!!
  22. I will simply predict Corps Vets in 9th. Who says Reading is the only one going for a fivepeat in their position :)
  23. A friend of mine is looking for anyone who may have videos of Avant Garde between the years of 1979 through 1984. He has audio and recordings, but no video. If anyone out there may be able to help, feel free to pm me and let me know what I can do. Thanks.
  24. I can tell you this, if Corps Vets and Music City Legend combined, they would give the Renegades and anybody a run for their money in the loud department.
