  1. I am a long time Colts fan and wow, they're just going for it. Love it! Great show, definitely pulling at the heartstrings (pun may or may not be intended) 🥰
  2. I pulled up and watched that 1995 Academie Musicale Drum and Bugle Corps performance and you can totally see why they won Div II/III in 1995! Excellent! Back in 1995, when you had to have Div III on a separate, really long day for prelims because there were so many. Going through the list of Div II/III corps in 1995, I was like, 'I remember them!!!!' - *old*..... Of those 54 who made it to finals, in 1995, the following still remain: Div III to World Class: Mandarins, Blue Stars Div II to World Class: Jersey Surf, Seattle Cascades (welcome back!) Div II and staying strong in Open Class: Spartans and Raiders (and BDB) In 1995 , I would think that BDB, Colt Cadets, Les Stentors, were also around then, but didn't go to finals and are still active.... SCVC (well.... here's hoping) And I know there were other corps that only did things like the Garden State Circuit, FAMQ, Eastern Mass, etc who are long gone as well. A shame really, but so glad to see the ones that have popped up since then as well. And catching these Open Class Corps shows on YouTube in 2023, (Sorry....I live outside the USA, so it's the only way I can see them at the moment, Flo Marching doesn't even work), they're definitely doing themselves proud!
  3. Yes, that's a great programme, isn't it? Thank you for the Facebook recommendation! 🙂
  4. I brought my husband to a drum corps show once when we were in the US, visiting from Scotland. ( He'd never seen or heard anything like it as the only marching we get around here is pipe bands. He isn't a musician either (but loves music) So he watched with great interest and laughed at the end looking at me in disbelief, going 'You used to do this?' And I laughed and said, yes, but our bugles were in G. Over his head. I let him watch without telling him anything about the scoring. I did have to explain the evolution though with military history up to the present day evolution and the instrumentation, how it's all conceptual shows and storytelling, etc, etc. Once the corps were done and we were waiting for the scores, I told him about the judging in general terms (music, visual, how well they march, how 'cool' something looks, how well they play together, etc), so he at least understood what the scores meant at the end. I don't think he could have placed any of the corps in any order, but he enjoyed all the shows. Now he watches me in brass band competitions, where he has to sit most of the time, through the same piece of music played by 20 different bands and appreciates the variety in drum corps! (I wish our judging criteria was as transparent as DCI criteria!)
  5. The Colts actually have their virtual cooktruck website where they list everything they eat from Spring Training through the end of tour. Might give you some ideas 🙂 https://coltscooktruck.blogspot.com/
  6. Good luck! There's a lot of marchers around South Florida looking for something close to home, so that should do the trick and its nice to see a corps back in the Miami area.
  7. Bring it on Pioneer! Looking forward to 2011
  8. This is incredibly sad news. Rest in peace George Parks.
  9. I'm....so........not..... Seeing that music makes me wanna cry Well done- my favourite solo of 2010! Congrats on a great season.
  10. Thanks for posting that- Sad to see so many that are gone- but also - so glad to see some are still kicking and getting better and better all the time- like the Raiders and the Colt Cadets. Good job to all the corps!!! Although I was far in bed by the time anything got posted, I'm glad to see a good competitive season. I hope I can catch everything on the fan network.
  11. So here I was logging into here and onto the DCI website, trying to find scores- because they usually post them straight away- and being in the UK and it's 10:30 pm, I would have thought it started by now... but then I realised, it's only just started Awww I remember when Div II/III quarters had to start early to get 'em all in -now Good luck to all the Open Class Corps! Rock your finals week!!! You'll always have a fan in me! :-)
  12. Why is that people always assume all kids want to march world class? Like someone said above, the two corps serve different needs. Revolution need not be a "feeder" corps for the X-men. It can be its own organization, with kids wanting to march with them and them alone and they were doing alright before the Crossmen came and I'm sure they'll do alright now. Revolution has been a class act on and off the field. So have the Crossmen. Different organizations, different experiences. I wish the best successto both corps in the near future!
  13. Oh you mean SCV is gonna win tonight (That would be awesome!) Good luck World Class Corps!
  14. Just goes to show that Finals is anyone's game! Congrats to all Open Class Corps.

  16. Best Brass- SCVC, Best Visual SCVC, hmmm getting interesting quick!
  17. You also have to remember that you start learning taiji at a young age in China and almost everyone can do a basic form or two. Then, the guys out there are masters with years upon years of perfection of forms. If you're serious about taiji you go to taiji school, like the wu shu (kung fu) schools near Shoulin Temple with repetition and watching and keeping together and moving together days after days after days. Its not like a casual thing. Same I would imagine could be said about the musicians. There are lots of specialized boarding schools, starting at a young age- be it music, dancing, acrobatics, gymnastics, swimming, taiji, kung fu etc where you specialize in that particular art for all your life. Drum corps kids don't just do drum corps. Though, that would be a great experiment- Starting at age 3 you learn how to march and play for 6 hours a day, everyday and then you have 4 hours of academic classes, and then you get up and do it again and again!
  18. Looks like they're heading into retreat right now
  19. Awesome pictures! The best part of it is,everyone was having fun performing, you can see it in the faces. But I was really struck by Spirt of Newark, the entire corps was beaming on the field. I'm sure it was way too early and there were like 5 people in the stands, but they looked by far the most genuinely happiest corps out there, performing their show! Always goes to show you it doesn't matter where you place or what class you're in, its about performing and doing something that you love!
