  1. Sweet!!! They may sound as good as SCV now!! But in all seriousness, I think Pearl has the best sounding snares and basses.
  2. I hear that they've recuited this guy as a front ensemble member.
  3. Aww, come on. Here, try this drink. It's quite delicious.
  4. Wow - great team. I stand by my prediction of no lower than 10th for Scouts in 2010. But more than placement, I'm just excited to see the product.
  5. FACT: Scouts will be no lower than 10th next summer. And to answer your question, The Troopers (unfortunately).
  6. If you're saying that a brass line that sounded just as good as other lines was punished solely because they used G horns, I call bull****. What the judge probably said was that the line has some serious tone quality issues that will probably remain so long as they stick with Gs.
  7. Although, looking at it again, it's not press release by the corps. It's a post by the director on the corps website, and the audience appears to be staff, alumni, vets, etc. Mr. Degraewe probably didn't intend for this to be broadcast publicly. The corps will likely remove the post at some point and issue a more typical release announcing the appointment.
  8. It's kind of an odd way to announce this. For most of us (outsiders), all we know is that some staff have moved on, which happens with all organizations from time to time. The announcement alludes to internal problems and acrimony among staff/BOD that makes fans on the outside wonder what's going on. Probably would have been better to just issue a positive press release that "I'm coming back and we're building a great team," etc.
  9. If true, that's a bit disappointing. I think Madison can do better.
  10. Yes, the move to Santa Clara is still planned. At this point, given all the variables, I'd say there's somewhere between a 50% and 70% chance that the move happens.
  11. That was my take as well. Plus, Madison needs him more at this point.
  12. Heh heh. You're absolutely right. The One of Whom You Speak does meet all of those qualifications
  13. I'm sure this has probably been discussed to death in other threads somewhere, but... What are the chances the BOD would ask Scott Stewart to come back? And would he come back if asked? If they're not scoring well anyway, at least they could kick ### again and get the crowds on their feet.
  14. You're looking very prescient. Let's hope you're right!
  15. Wow - is that 8 (or 9??) seasons with one junior corps? Quite an accomplishment. Any idea what the record is?
  16. I think this is 180 degrees wrong. The key to longevity is the support of fans, high school band programs and DC alumni, and seeking to broaden the activity beyond this core audience. What you are proposing would make the appeal even narrower and make DC even more of a niche activity. How would it help the activity to be "accepted into the fray" (whatever that means)? Jazz bands, chamber groups and orchestras are all struggling, and are finding their support and appeal ever dwindling. Trading support from traditional fans for acceptance by a small group of self-appointed arbiters of what constitutes "art" would be a poor trade indeed.
  17. The reason is that drumming is too much fun. Who would want to give up a summer of drumming to conduct?
  18. Really? For every show? So why hasn't Phantom been going on last all season?
  19. So Phantom is on last? Cool. This got me thinking, why not have the current defending champ always go on last throughout the season? It would be a nice way to reward last year's accomplishment and recognize their achievement.
