1. you do realize great demand is rewarded with great performance right> if it isnt performed well, sorry i dont care how hard it is, you wont get credit for it. anyone can throw out 15 pounds of #### in a 2 pound bag as far as the book number. but if you dont perform it, odds are it isnt understood, and as a result, you wont get the max credit in either box
2. and if you give me what i'll lose to take an extra vacation day, I'll gladly go. I always supported 2/3 when it was in the same place
3. you're right! I should fork out all that money to not hear ####! Why didn't I think of that? (sarcasm off)
4. so in other words, the sound will suck, we should accept it and pay $125 a head
5. drum corps is about anyone that wants to perform, be it DCI, DCA, alumni etc....not just kids. there is so much more to drum corps than just DCI.
6. and if attendance is down, well they better jack up fan network fees and the ticket price for the movie theater
7. I see Blue Stars as the next Crown. Since leaving D3, they keep crawling up, slowly but surely, and getting some serious names on their team.
8. question...when has drum corps even been objectively evaluated? the tick system was subjective as what is there now.
9. yeah, because people should pay to support what they don't like. sorry that guilt trip's been tried over and over
10. good move getting involved with the local program!
11. yeah WCU has had serious drum corps influence for a long time ya know...guys like Hannum, Aungst....just to name a few
12. do you not think the visitor experience being good can help them stay afloat?
13. right about now, this Flyers fan wants to see more of the drum corps than the Flyers
14. well if the food is as brutal as this says....do you think the amount of...uh...fumes...released can help with the echo?
15. well, since Indy, the most expensive seats can be anywhere. Lotsa people paid $125 a head to sit on the 20.
16. I imagine we'll see something. the judges can say what they want, but the fans pay. and if it isn't better, 6000 fans at finals will be the low point in DCI history.
17. for DCI? no. And the circuit I do judge in knows all too well how vocal I can be.
18. I don't know. going there for who I root for = death, so I avoid the place
19. early on maybe since the first dome doesnt come into play until Mid season
20. I agree. and I think many are hopeful 2010 will be better. if it isn't
21.
It's not, actually, provided that there is solid information to share. The exact course of action and the precise steps that are being taken are still being discussed, modeled, analyzed and planned. As soon as a definitive plan is determined, finalized, receives all necessary approvals and is put into written form, I pledge to share that with everyone interested in such things... all the while knowing that it's going to be sliced, diced, examined, scrutinized and probably aggressively condemned as "not enough" prior to being implemented. I respect that fact that everyone is entitled to an opinion and I respect the fact that this is a hot button issue with many people who care deeply about the subject, as do I and all of the corps directors, the organizations they represent, as well as the entire community which exists in support of DCI's corps. The sensitivity to those facts are lost on no one, I assure you. There are many, MANY people sharing a common commitment to create the ultimate drum corps viewing and listening experience in Indianapolis. I know that there are some who may not believe that, but I wouldn't be sacrificing my personal credibility to be a DCI shill. I also know that there are those who disagree with keeping the championships in one place, regardless of the quality of the stadium experience. Perhaps in a future column or forum, we can discuss the many reasons that growing roots in one community that actually WANTS the championships to be there is something that may ultimately contribute to the future existence and growth of Drum Corps International, and therefore its ultimate ability to serve its members at the highest possible level. The thought that DCI can simply hold the championships in Madison or some other town every year at its whim is a fallacy... unless, of course, the corps would be willing to depart with tradition and house their corps members in hotel rooms, since in most markets the room-nights are the currency of the event and convention trade. The last thing we want to do is make a statement regarding what's happening within the stadium, trot out the illustrations and diagrams, only to find out that plans have changed and that something that was expected is now going to be executed differently. I hope you can understand my desire to demonstrate restraint to that end. There are opportunities to develop the World Championships and there are challenges with the facility and with other logistical considerations. Intelligent, passionate and determined people from many "real world" disciplines are working together on this... not merely to "fix" something, but to "create" something magnificent for the performers, the audience, and everyone involved.
thanks Bob. While I do laugh at the spin being thrown out, I too realize that it's too soon to have the fixes finalized and in place, and have said so a few times.
22. all it needs is a built in courtroom and it's the now demolished veterans Stadium in Philly
23. John Flowers is still playing drum corps...he started in 1948
