  1. Dear This Guy, Please take a course in PR. It will do you wonders. Sincerely, Me. (with tongue planted firmly in cheek)
  2. Sometimes you have to conform to the guidelines of a place/group/organization if you want to be there. Example: I go to the mall with a hat on. I go to church and have to take my hat off. Simple as that. I think that's all anyone on this side of the discussion is really trying to say. When in doubt, just think about hats. :) Molehills don't have snow on top because they aren't that big. There is now snow on this molehill.
  3. Dunno if BK's were designed originally for them, but now that sooo many bands use that uniform (plus one more corps, Div II I think. forget the name offhand), it's become stale looking IMO. I know I'm in the minority here, but I absolutely hate Phantom's unis. I think they just look... cheap... up close. Loved the black ones, though I never saw them up close in person. I'm ok with Madison's after seeing them enough times, but I think I prefer the 03 look overall. Crown's unis + anybody who isn't incredibly tan = unflattering. I absolutely love the new BD look and have always loved the Cavalier uniforms. Two best in my book. SCV's are ok, but I thought the 97-01 ones were the deal. No comment for Bluecoats due to extreme bias. :)
  4. I don't know exactly how that form was charted, but you'd be amazed at what having a set dot every 2 counts can do for you in terms of micro-management on the field.
  5. You beat me to it. lol I don't remember the last time I did a block rotation that didn't move somewhere. Wait, yeah I do: 2001, and that drill writer is gone now. :)
  6. If there's one thing I've learned from former Cavaliers like Mitch Rogers and Mike Tarr, it's that if you take a straight path with a consistent step-size, drill works. Curved paths, are for the most part, archaic now. Visual practices have developed their own set of theory, much like music. If you want an example of a curved path reshape failing miserably, watch the giant C reshape in the 01 Bluecoats closer before the big tango reprise. Wonder why that drill writer wasn't asked back next season? lol
  7. w/Stp: For real. I'd go Phantom-Blue Devils-Cavaliers; from hardest to not-quite as hard.
  8. Personally, I'd like to make the playing of Simple Gifts punishable by death. CLICHE!!! GAAHHHH!!!! *flips out* So yeah. I'm a little against it. :P
  9. Out of curiosity, are you a fan of the films? BD 06 was my favorite show of the year (excluding my Bluecoats, for obvious, extremely-biased reasons). Loved every second of it.
  10. Yep. I really dislike Frameworks, but I still think it's the best hornline in DCI history.
  11. THANK YOU!!! YES!!! With that said, it's still fun to listen to. People just need to learn how to separate the words "best" and "favorite." :)
  12. I'm gonna go with Cavaliers 2002 as the best. I think it's tough to argue with that one from a technical standpoint. As for my favorite? I'd probably take 2003 Blue Devils, esp. during the hits in Take Five. And though I didn't want to play this card, I just want to point out that 06 Bluecoats beat 06 Devs in brass. Why not give the little guy a chance in the poll? ^0^ Never thought I'd get the opportunity to say that with any truth behind it! Whew!
  13. I think Blue is heading in the right direction, as they (we) have for the past 7 years. I do agree with this point, however; it's time for a show that reaches out and beats the audience with a sledgehammer. No playing nice, just 11 minutes of massacre that leaves no doubt in the minds of the DCI community that they just saw 135 people who own copies of Sam Jackson's wallet from Pulp Fiction. Though it got changed (and eventually cut), I think the original 2001 intro was the last thing to REALLY do that. That minute of music, esp. the first and last brass entrances, felt like getting hit by a train. Good stuff. I'm glad I still have my drill camp copy.
  14. My rehearsal day spent with the Bluecoats while skipping my HS graduation in 02 means more to me than my 4 years of high school. Simple as that.
  15. Oswald, you definitely jogged my memory a bit Brian Soules (00 vis caption head)- "John! Why the h*ll didn't you make your set???" John (aka Fat ########)- ...[pause]... "Because I'm fat!" Antman's lyrics to 00's The Witch, designed to help us understand the 7/8 8th note ostinato: "Hey! Let's go eat some children! Let's go eat some children!" "I never really could relate to "Life Goes On," but after spending a summer with 8 versions of Corkey in this contra line, I'm kinda drawn to that show now." "My retards march better than you!" -contra tech who works as a special ed teacher (much ironic laughter ensued) That Guy- "I really don't think that me eating your last Oreo this morning should make it ok for you to put your underwear from last night's show in my waterjug before rehearsal" Anonymous contra section leader- "Don't touch my Oreos, b*tch." And for anyone who was at the Massillon show this year- Non-drum corps friend- "So what was it like to have marched Bluecoats for all those years?" [pause] *points to the drumline on the field before retreat, doing the little sway "dance" to music on the PA Anonymous Blue alum, grinning- "...yeah. It's was kind of like that."
  16. Cavaliers - 2000- To me, the first really modern drum corps show. Phantom Regiment - 2004- I hate classical music, but the Piazzolla show was great Blue Devils - 1992- Does it really get any better (musically) than this? Bluecoats - 2005- Total package. A blast to perform Cadets - 1999- I know I'm in the minority here, but I love this music Santa Clara Vanguard - 2000- Holy ####. That says it all. Blue Knights - 2006- First time I've liked a BK show Carolina Crown - 2000- Diego's Goodbye = freaking gorgeous Madison Scouts - 1996- Hated 95. Boston Crusaders - 2001- To me, this was a very underrated show. Loved the ballad. Glassmen - 2000- Only Glassmen show I like. Gershwin was great Spirit - 1980- No caption necessary. B) Colts - haven't found one yet, but I'm hoping they rock in 07! Blue Stars - ditto Crossmen - 2002- To me, this was THE Bones show. One of the best openers ever. Capital Regiment - 2006- until the closer Mandarins - ??? Southwind - 2005- Incantation was the deal. Very well-written musical book Seattle Cascades - 2002- Loved Prelude Fugue and Riffs The Magic- um... 97 maybe. Some good tunes in there
  17. I think that says it better than my original post. Word. Blue in 07.
  18. Ah yes, Paul. Proud graduate of University Da. I liked the graduation "cap" that Oswald gave him.
  19. Red Cape Tango, no doubt. To me, it stands as the tune that ushered in the modern Bluecoats.
  20. Dunno when you last marched in DCI, but "innocent" and "drum corps kids" should never be in the same sentence. lol Find an honest member of a top 12 corps and ask him or her to rattle off just a few bus stories. When you're an adolescent on tour with half-naked members of the opposite (or same?) sex around you day in and day out, things tend to happen. ...a lot. Having had friends who've marched in quite a few different Div 1 corps out there, I'd venture to say that it's a universal thing at that level. But hey, it's part of growing up, right? :)
