  1. Scott-- I checked the Syracuse forecast for Saturday. Sunny and in the mid-40's sounds downright balmy for the St. Patrick's Day parade! Hope you have a wonderful time--miss you guys!
  2. Best wishes for a full & speedy recovery, Bruce!
  3. Personally, I'm waiting for the addition of a "wind correction factor" like they have at track competitions. Something like: Pi divided by (# of guard members on the field x average wind speed)
  4. Thanks for posting, Christine! As much as I've been in awe of Genevieve in the past...WOW!!! (and are we allowed to call her Mama now?)
  5. I don't think Dale was involved. I've always blamed it on the lack of sprinkles on my pink cookie at lunch...
  6. Uh, oh...I didn't start a batch yet. It takes at least a month to get to the white stem stage...
  7. Looking forward to seeing y'all later this month!
  8. Just when I thought I was almost over it, you HAD to bring up the HoneyDew wedge incident!
  9. Tom, I saw this article & thought of you. At least your trip ended better than this... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25928867/
  10. My Opinion only: The Bucs can be beaten this season. Possibly by another northeast corps. Will this happen? I dunno. It is possible for Bucs to come in second in several captions this year & still capture the overall championship. Will this happen? I dunno. I've marched in a corps that had a 50+ point gain over the course of a two month season to surge into 9th place. I've marched in a corps that lost the first show of the season & won all remaining shows. I've marched in a corps that lost for the first time the week before championships. My point: it's not quite August. Anything can happen.
  11. For me, the definition of "Upstate" changes with my location. If I'm in NYS, I can tell people I'm from Central New York. Outside of NYS, it's easier to say I'm from Upstate New York to distinguish the difference between Syracuse and New York City. Ah, well...tomato, to-mah-to... Back on topic: it is shaping up to be an interesting season.
  12. Are you still allowed to do that, Tom??? I thought there was some regulation limiting the number of Allen brothers that could congregate in one place...
  13. Not quite as far as Christine's trips, but I drove from Rochester to Syracuse for 2.5 seasons & Philly area to Syracuse for 8.5 seasons. (I also drove as a Syracuse "local" for 3 years.) Over the course of 14 seasons, I managed to "retire" two cars with 110,000 to 140,000 miles--and add the first 20,000 on a third. The longest show 'weekend' drive for me was a little over 900 miles round trip.
  14. I'll add. I am a Packaging Engineer (mostly pharma/healthcare products). Without going into too many details, some of my responsibilities include: finding solutions to make sure things get safely from A to B (e.g. you actually get a bottle of tablets instead of a bottle of powder) & ensuring packages are child resistant (but still easy enough to open that my Mom won't complain). BTW--One of the things that I've enjoyed most about marching in DCA is finding the variety of careers folks have. I've marched with teachers, students, police officers, lawyers, pilots, salespeople, nurses, postal workers, social workers, info tech specialists, real estate agents, travel agents...all of whom I would not have met through any other activity.
  15. If Rick looks at his drill book, looks up at you, looks back at his drill book & starts to laugh...it's probably okay to order the large fries cuz that is the sign for lots-o-running...
  16. Is it going to be a requirement that every other post in this thread be a recruiting attempt by Scott? Miss y'all & can't wait to see this show--I keep hearing great things about this program!
  17. OT: If you get a chance tonight, Brig Mellophone Alumnus Steve Fineman is defending his 1-day Jeopardy! win. And back on topic: Go Brigs! Have a great camp in February!
  18. Get it, Brigs!!! Can't wait to hear the rest of the show!
  19. Thanks for sharing such great news, Fran!
  20. Are you sure about not needing the gym mat? New horn...Ric Roberts...Spain?? ^0^ ^0^
  21. Uh...actually, I continued to march when I was working on my Master's degree (which significantly increased my income). It was a tough 3.5 years between work, school & corps, but I'm so glad I continued to march. It was great to be able to focus on something other than thesis research for a little while each week & I met a lot of really nice people. (Added bonus: 3 championship medals)
  22. Best Moments (not necessarily in order): - Catching up with a lot of old friends at I&Es...and making new ones - Hearing from Frank Nash himself about his Hall of Fame induction--Congratulations, Frank! - Having my corps perform well at finals--especially the ballad. - Hugs from some of my all-time favorite people marching into the stadium for Finals. (GCS ROCKS!!!) - Hearing Fran Haring's voice as we were coming onto the field (just wish I had been able to catch up in person) - Genevieve winning the Showmanship award - Monday brunch with the Meeks. Happy 40th season, Tom & Diann! I'm sure there are more...but this seems like a long enough list for now... :)
  23. Hear, Hear! :) Thanks so much to the fans that braved returning to the soggy seats after the rain delay.
  24. We're at Irondequoit Middle School. Stop by & pull up a lawn chair... :)
