  1. Anyone know if DCI sent out posters to high schools across the country for the event? I remember a long time ago in HS, we'd get a poster from DCI ever so often advertising big events.
  2. you might be better off hookin up with the guy at corpsreps.com since that's THE place to go to find placements and such from the past. I like the idea, could be a little time consuming though, although, there's already some corps' that have their past staff listings on their current websites.
  3. Not too sure if this is the right board for this (admin, please move to correct forum if needed) I'm lookin for round up a couple people to drive to the Atlanta regional with (goin to the Orlando show as well, but I wanna see my old corps in ATL) I'm in the Tampa area, so if you're interested in carpooling with, lemme know soon (I wanna buy my ticket and get a hotel room)
  4. just bid on your 1994 and 2004 listings.
  5. Very true Steve. granted it's a recording, but they sound enourmous at the end. ....someone should do a show titled "park and blow" ....oh wait, that's what retreat used to be...my bad.
  6. I'm shocked no one's mentioned the year that SCV got so loud in the closer when they pulled out Fiddler, that the corps phased so badly that they didn't end the show together. Wasn't it one of the early 80's shows?
  7. Anyone have any clue how much something like this costs DCI??? ....please chime in if you do. But what about a monthly event? Say like, every first saturday of each month? Show a different finals top 12 each month maybe? With a set schedule like this: Month 1: 1972 Finals Month 2: 1980 Finals Month 3: 1990 Finals Month 4: 2000 Finals Month 5: 1973 FInals Month 6: 1981 FInals......you get my point. Yeah, i've got pretty much all the dvd's and videos....but it's still sweet to DCI on the big screen. This is where my question about cost comes into question. If this costs DCI a lot of money, then it won't work, but if the cost is relatively low, then maybe this could be a future idea. Get a different sponsor for each month to subsidize some costs. Just my $0.02
  8. I'll be at the showing in Tampa, FL. I'll be going to talk to other corps members, future corps members, and just being a good ambassador to the sport. I take every chance I get to talk someone into marching, or at least attending an event. Essentially, this is also a great night for smaller corps to get out there and do some late season recruiting or recruiting for the following year. My only debate, is what corps jacket to wear......
  9. It's not as bad as the Orange Bowl. BTW, they're knockin that sucker down (if it already hasn't happened, not sure) CB isn't in the nicest of places, but I like watching shows there. As for what I said about USF's new track/soccer stadium....cross that one off....just checked out the plans for it, and while it's gonna be really nice, it's not gonna be very high. But I agree with whoever mentioned it before, but yeah, Cotton Bowl....yikes....nightmare (especially for Front Ensembles)
  10. Gee, y'all are makin me out to be a Florida hater. I'm 100% Floridian. Marched my first 2 summers in a Florida corps. I personally just like the Citrus Bowl over Brighthouse Stadium at the current time. As for a Florida tour, it's a great idea, but it's so risky cause of Florida's miserable summer weather. The last DCI show in Tampa nearly got rained out and turned into a mudfest at USF. USF is building a new track/soccer stadium at the end of this summer, so that would make for a good "small" show. It'd be nice to see DCI stick everyone in a centralized housing area, say Orlando, and have them commute to other shows. You could do Tampa, Orlando, Daytona(that's a big maybe though). Or if they were to ever host a 2-day regional in Orlando again, whoever isn't playing at the regional, can drive an hour to tampa to play a show.
  11. Citrus bowl is gettin a $175million expansion/renovation. Don't think it'll go to UCF anytime soon.
  12. Good thing UCF denied em. Fans would not be happy there. PLEASE DCI, keep DCI Orlando at the Citrus Bowl for the future.
  13. I used to lose made weight during tour. Anywhere from 15-30lbs per summer. I'd usually look like skeletor by the end of the summer (that's a He-Man reference for you youngins) I wish I could get back into that shape again, well, not the extreme skinny part, but the in shape part. I actually lost more weight, with the corps that fed me very well. The corps that didn't feed well, I lost the least amount, probably cause my metabolism wasn't working as hard.
  14. My jackets all still fit. Still bitter that I never got my jacket in 2003 that I paid for!!!
  15. Make your section wear matching section shorts. Bam, there's all the shorts you need for rehearsal. The stankness of those shorts gets lost when you realize everyone else smells just as bad (the smell of burnt skin will take over your senses anyway) I always got thru the summers with the same Post-show outfit (although, I had to change it every now and then, occasionally I'd get dirty loading the truck after a show) A sweatshirt and blanket for the bus Rain jacket and rain pants (a wind suit works best) flip flops for the nasty showers DONT bring a laptop, it'll get stolen!!!! Like mine did in 03!! and if it isn't stolen, you'll hate having it, cause it'll take up valuable space and EVERYONE is gonna wanna use it. Disposable cameras, not digital. Digital cameras can't take the conditions of tour, especially if you bring them out to rehearsal. A Poncho. If you're in the pit, get one of those super towels from an auto store. The type that you dry a car with. They soak up super amounts of waters and they dry really fast. Ziploc bags. The big ones. Roll all your clothes up and cram them into giant ziploc bags. Helps you keep your show clothes separate and lets you know what's clean and what's dirty. Some type of spray, like axe, for when your uniform gets stank. Bandaids And last but not least, have someone mail you bus food throughout the season, Dont get it all at once!! (you'll either eat it too fast, end up giving it all away, or it'll get attacked by roaches) and as many of those suction cup shower caddies as you can find.
  16. Well, the Citrus Bowl was good enough for the WWE to use it for Wrestlemania this year. I'm a big fan of them chosing the citrus bowl over Brighthouse stadium. Brighthouse stadium is a giant toilet bowl. The bleachers sway, and it was built with bare minimum stadium amenities since it's gradually gonna be upgraded over the years. There's not enough space for all the corps to park and setup in the lot at UCF. DCI is quite familiar with the Citrus Bowl and how their gigs work there. CB is also in a better area for the tourists who may travel to this show since it's near downtown. My only beef with the show, is NONE of the corps i marched will be there (well, only 2 of the 4 are still active). but THANK YOU DCI!!! 2 florida shows!!! and 3 if you count the Valdosta, GA show (which is right across the border) Road Trip!
  17. Ah, sounds like the good ole Florida scenario.
  18. If you're not happy come the end of the season, there's no problem in switching corps, but make sure you can actually make that commitment to go to another corps, you don't wanna go out for another corps, then end up at your original corps, I've seen corps excommunicate members for going to other auditions, then using their original corps as their crutch in case they don't make it. On the other hand, staff changes, internal corps problems, personal problems, can be a reason to change from corps A to corps B. look at my signature for example.
  19. I think the big problem we're missing here, is if they randomly selected performances, it would totally screw with corps daily schedules. example...the last performing corps can rehearse much later into the day, while the first performing corps have to have a shorter rehearsal day. You'd be messing with everyone's rehearsal schedule, and it would throw the kids way out of whack.
  20. Any school without showers (elementary schools of course), schools with only 1-2 shower heads in the mens locker room, schools with box 1 shower heads, the "practice field" at the school in Allentown where Scouts stayed in 2004. It was like taking a marimba down the grand canyon, in the rain. All the Tampa housing sites.....Oh wait!!! There aren't any!!! Thanks Hillsborough County school district!
  21. well, i think you're better off asking the corps for some names and numbers of others traveling up from the south, and drive with them. It's a lot cheaper when you can split gas money, and split the driving, you get there a lot faster. I did this when i drove from florida to rockford, and from florida to madison. I flew to a few phantom camps, but it was always a pain for me having to fly into midway, then hop on the subway to o'hare, then hop on the bus to rockford. O'hare was just too expensive for me to fly into over Midway.
  22. I just convinced my parents that for 5 years, sending me away with a drum corps would cost the same as it probably would to keep me home for the summer (yeah, i'm kinda an expensive dude), Plus, I always had tons of extra scholarship money left each summer (thanks State of Florida for paying for my on tour incidentals)
  23. I think DCI should disperse members amongst corps like some little league baseball leagues. Everyone goes and try's out. Then they disperse them into teams, to evenly stack the league. Imagine that in DCI? Crazy.... Man, that'd be dumb. I'm all for camps in other states, heck, It wasn't cheap driving to Wisconsin and Illinois from Florida when I marched Phantom and Scouts.
  24. I heard Phantom was playing Shostakovich again, and I wanted to stand in front of the hornline every day. AND, we played fire of eternal glory that summer as a side tune.
  25. I caught a guy in 04 who claimed to march in 03, in a certain section, of a certain corps, of which I was in. Felt great calling him out. I've never understood why people would lie about stuff like that, jealousy maybe?
