  1. And drum corps do marching basics every day. Just saying. You make it sound like they don't work on the fundamentals at all, or that they march like crap or something. They actually march pretty well, they just have some areas of their show when their marching is not consistently at the top level from performer to performer. And even though they WILL be working on fundamentals every day, in the end, they just might just not be as good as the others. It happens.
  2. And I was just trying to shed some light on your opinion that may clarify to some who may be reading that there is more to that caption than just marching. If you choose to ignore that part of the visual performance equation, by all means.
  3. For all your seemingly know-it-all prognostications, I'm left to ponder why you keep bringing up the visual performance caption and stressing its relation to marching technique, when that is clearly not the only thing being evaluated in that caption. For sure, that is one big part of it, but the color guard's contribution to that caption is enormous. All I'm saying is that for all this talk about marching technique, it may just come down to who has the cleaner color guard on the field. Not arguing for or against HNC or Crown on this one, just trying to relay what I've learned after years dealing directly with the visual performance caption in DCI. It ain't just marching.
  4. I'm kind of surprised they haven't incorporated a z-pull into their anniversary show. I'm not sure, at this point, where they could add it without making some significant changes to the drill and music. That ship might have sailed, but if they somehow do manage to find a way to sneak that in there, the crowd will no doubt go BONKERS.
  5. So what? How many shows have we seen over the years where the battery contributes absolutely ZERO to the ballad musically, sometimes for three or more minutes. And sometimes, they get thrown into the back of the field or take a knee on the front sideline and don't contribute anything visually either. Nobody seems to make complaints about those great shows. And some of those shows not only won a DCI title, but are considered by some around here to be classics.
  6. I must have missed the two minutes of absolute silence in their show. I may be losing it in my old age, but I could have sworn I heard music throughout their whole show. Maybe not between productions when the audience was applauding and such, but that only lasted a few seconds.
  7. Leave it to SCV to pull out a new ending that will be something people will talk about for years! Absolutely wonderful and beautiful and elegant show. My favorite of the year.
  8. Maybe that would be your best course of action. You might actually (gasp) enjoy those apples and oranges and cumquats and watermelons a whole lot more!
  9. Isn't it obvious? The judges simply hate the Colts. Sheesh! You should have seen them all in the judges van going back to the hotel after the show (in two separate cities no less!). They were laughing and twirling their moustaches, so pleased with themselves that they were able to pull this off. FINALLY, they were able to stick it to the Colts. And nobody would ever know. And they would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for that meddling bmroth1. CURSE YOU!!!!!!
  10. That was my favorite part of their show before they changed it. Very intriguing and groovy. Loved it.
  11. No no no, that's not what you really want to say. Come on, go for it. What are you afraid of?
  12. You want to talk about guts? Then why don't you just come out and say what you want to say. Better yet--prove it.
  13. To be fair, the reason a corps like the Crossmen stopped making finals is when they started playing poorly and marching poorly and drumming poorly and spinning/catching poorly. All more or less at the same time. That's usually how it works, and they have been no exception to the rule. Your friend is not as prophetic as you give him credit for.
  14. Blah blah blah. Put down the stop watch, stop counting notes and enjoy the freaking show already. All this data is interesting for about ten seconds until you realize that moving and playing a lot does not automatically equal QUALITY of show design or performance. And for the record, my little rant is not meant to slam the original author because he or she does not make any statements or editorials about the data and is merely presenting it. It's more against those who are gleaning some end-all, be-all meaning from the data.
  15. One night?? I usually spend at least three to four days in Dayton at WGI.
  16. Agreed. And let's face it...there is far less to do in Dayton than there is in Indy. Yet I love going to Dayton every year and I've always enjoyed going to Indy when I've been there. I'm looking forward to it.
  17. I consider playing music from a singular artist or composer to be a theme unto itself. It does narrow the scope of what can be played and unifies the musical focus. In that respect, many of the shows listed here, to me, ARE theme shows.
  18. How about we LET THE CORPS DO THE KINDS OF SHOWS THEY WANT TO DO?
  19. I can recognize a thinly veiled (and lame) attempt at flame bait when I see it.
  20. They should have painted a football grid on it. Without hashmarks.
  21. Am I missing something? When did Jersey Surf score a 74??
  22. Wow. If I were involved with the Crossmen, I wouldn't know whether to thank you for all the support you showed over the years, or punch you in the face for flat out refusing to watch the members perform just because their show failed to live up to some standard you have set in your mind of what you think "works best for the corps." Even if you don't like the show, if you can't support the kids on the field when they're giving their heart and soul to what they're doing, then maybe you're doing this drum corps thing for the wrong reasons.
  23. Oh yeah??? Well, YOUR MOM! This is the dumbest thread EVER.
