  1. On a marching band tape: "The band would be a lot better without the God #### Clarinets!" On a Drum corps tape: "Problems with intonation with the clarinets on side one..." Also, we had a judge that caused a drinking game. His overused word was "appreciate." "I appreciate the style change..." and "tempo change appreciated." Every time he said it on a tape...we drank. I looked forward to every time he judged us :)
  2. After further research...it should be $1 to Neil Armstrong :)
  3. b**bs :lolhit: Only if you believe that Polaris IS actually in Houston...or if it is just on a soundstage in Hollywood...
  4. I thought Shirley Jones WAS the the head-hooker-with-a-hesrt-of-gold... I remember Gene Kelly directed it.
  5. Yes! :) ...from the wonderful old movie with Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda, and Shirley Jones...
  6. Whenever the Cheyenne Social Club Senior Corps Colorguard warmed up, the show ended as a total rain-out...
  7. Lemme see... We had "Short Round" (he was short, and, well, round) "Princess Tiny Tone" "BJ and the Bear" (girl and guy, repectively) "Dinkus" (short for "dinkus minimus")
  8. I hope all the naysayers remember the kind words said by a few people here in the near future. "That corps" considerably closed the gap this season and doesn't look to be last again.
  9. Don't forget the Blue Saints...the oldest continually operating drum corps in Canada...
  10. For me the order went something like this... 1. Phantom...simply the most awesome performance out there 2. Cavies...simply the best written show on the field 3. Bluecoats...a Cavies-style show, only with good music 4. BD...or whatever they want to call themselves...they are not the BD of old 5. Cadets...I grew up in Bergen County and it bothers me to place them here, but they are from Allentown now, aren't they? 6. Crown...3rd best hornline sound, after PR and BLOOOO!!! 7. SCV...Someone told me their visuals were sloppy, but I would never know...I could not stop watching the #### trumpet player working his way around the field... 8. Madison Scouts...a fun show, a crowd favorite...chalk something up to home field advantage over performance 9. Blue K--niggets...I...I just don't have any words 10. Glassmen 11. BAC...edit, edit, edit 12. Spirit...Good "old fashioned" drum corps
  11. Now there is a guard with a high "Fruit Factor!"
  12. I grew up in Bergen County and never saw drum corps before I graduated college with a music degree! It was 1987 and I went to a band show with a group I was teaching and saw the Rochester Crusaders. I thought it was pretty neat and wanted to get involved. I checked out all the corps' within driving distance, but non of them interested me and, unfortunately, Cru was a 6-hour drive to get there. A year later I went to a few rehearsals, but could not commit to the season. The following year, Tom Peashey called me up and told me how much Cru would like to see me there. I would teach all week, leave my school at 3 on Friday, get to Rochester, do the weekend, stop by and see my fiancee in central New York on Sunday evening, then be back home by 3am Monday to teach at 7:30am. The following year I moved to Rochester simply to be closer to the corps. To this day I still bleed green...but I think they know what causes that now :)
  13. I stand corrected, Tom... Fast typing and a slow brain today. "1992. It sucked. We know it. We're over it." Still...given the opportunity, I would go back and do those years at Cru all over again, including 1992! (And I have Tom to thank for it...he recruited me!) A bad day at corps is still better than a good day many other places!
  14. I would have to partially agree with Keith, Donny. 1990 AND 1991 Rochester Crusaders...1990 was awesome! The hornline was great (I think we went undefeated until finals?). 1991 was just a continuation of the fun. Hangin' out with "o' my gosh" (Magacs), "Bogus" (Borgus), Elliott, Sledge, and all the rest... I rank those 2 years amongst the best in my life, not just the best drum corps years in my life. 1994 Cru was not so bad...bu that was just by comparison. We wore buttons that said "1993. It Sucked. We know it. We're over it."
  15. "Jim was truly amazed when he looked at his nose hair under the electron microscope..." $1 to the Gary Larson
  16. "Raise your hand...raise your hand, if you're SURE..." :P
  17. Dante's third level of the eternal place of damnation....the colorguard drop!
  18. Blue Saints have a Contra spot and a bari spot available.
  19. Filmed in black and white, early DCI competitions were later "colorized" for broadcast on the Turner Classics Channel.
