  1. At Dutch Boy we had some drill instructors with AMAZING AIM... Flip flops, drum sticks... anything handy in fact thrown from the top of the truck and hitting their mark. Yelling is no big deal. I have found that generally the drill instructors are the most intense on the field and the most personable/ approachable off the field. It's their job to make their corps the best they can be. If that includes yelling well then it includes yelling. It's not personal.
  2. HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY not fair!!!! Where's my DVD???? I'm off the 401 too... still in KW!
  3. Dutch Boy did Vegas style shows from 1987 through to 1993. 1987 - Frank Sinatra 1988 - Sinatra 1989 - Cole Porter 1990 - Sammy and Frank 1991 - City of Angels 1992 - mixed bag - Beauty and the Beast - Unforgettable and some others 1993 - mixed bag - Big Spender and some others I can't remeber off the top of my head I'm glad to see this genre making a comeback. It is definitely entertaining if performed well. I wish PC a successful season.
  4. 1983 and 1984.. I will PM the names to you as I don't want to put their names in a public forum without their knowledge.
  5. Still not here yet I ordered State Street one of the years you marched! I know some people that marched those years.
  6. thanks for the info Sue. I'm soooo excited. I can hardly wait. Did you check my signature?? I'm in Canada too and likely just down the road!
  7. Hey Sue, How long did it take for your DVD to arrive? I got an email confirmation on Monday that my DVD has been shipped. thanks Annette
  8. Thanks for the link Sue. I'm gonna need a second job now!
  9. Dutch Boy 1989 played 1 song for the majority of the show - Begin the Beguine. Closer was Night and Day/ My Way.
  10. This is little to no information available on the above website. No mention of staff, admininstration, corps director... nothing. I wish Kavies all the best as an alumni but if I were looking to audition I would certainly want to be provided with some important info before attending.
  11. Tony did march with us in 86 - He is quite a character! Sat across the aisle from him all tour....wow. that's all Wow
  12. Really, we did it first??? Probably wasn't executed well enough for anyone to notice :sshh: Marc, I doubt you remember me but it was a pleasure learning from you. I will never forget your innovative way to hide a second flag. I believe we referred to it as a "condom" (nice lol) Paul P was our drill designer and instructor in 1988 - Does anyone know how to spell his name???
  13. Marc wrote the drill and toured with Dutch Boy in 1984 and 1985 Best wishes to Crossman for 07! Sully is an asset to any corps.
  14. I would assume the answer lies below from a website I found Anchorage's widely scattered neighborhoods make for a city that is not particularly pedestrian-friendly. Downtown, however, invites walking. The grid plan was laid out with military precision by the Army Corps of Engineers, and streets and avenues run exactly east-west and north-south, with numbers along the first axis and letters of the alphabet or Alaska place-names (Barrow, Cordova, Denali, etc.) along the other. The only aberration is the peculiar absence of a J Street. http://www.alaskaanchorage.net/news/article.php/1 I guess the Army engineers used b and c together at an intersection folowing the grid and armies tend to know a thing or two about drum and bugle corps. I hope I got the answer! If not ignore me! :P
  15. I don't see the harm in buying other corps souvies. If they have something you really like or you simply just want to support the corps because you enjoy their show, I say go ahead. Buying a t shirt from another corps isn't the issue... leaving your corps to march another corps should be what directors worry about . I don't know about instructors today but I do recall back when I marched seing our staff all wear their respective members corps jackets. I really would have preferred the staff wear our corps jackets rather than their prior marching corps jackets
  16. I like the way they look on the field but considering I was covered in sequins as a member of Dutch Boys guard I can tell you they scratch the crap out of your skin... Not enjoyable. <**>
  17. Easily the most beautiful show ever performed. I had the opportunity to see the show live several times that summer as we (Dutch Boy) toured with Garfield almost the entire summer and we always watched them perform as there were MANY former Dutch Boy members marching that year with them. (3 guard, 2 snare including Lee Beddis and I believe there were a 2 of 3 horn players as well) I was never disappointed. Every show they took my breath away. From the moment Wes leaps onto the field in the openning to the very end is just WOW!! My only regret is I didn't march that show myself.. I loved Dutch Boy too much to imagine leaving my hometown corps but would have loved to march Garfield that year. Never will be duplicated.
  18. I don't think any of the Canadian KK kids decided to march 06 with Dutch. I may be wrong but I don't see 07 being any different. Although it would be nice for Dutch to pick up some members. I wish Dutch all the best! I am proud to be alumni.
  19. Kavaliers actually wore the "Spanish Style" uniforms both 1987 and 1988. The BD uniforms in red were in 1989. edited to add photo of 1989

  21. Sorry to correct you, but that is definitely Kiwanis. I marched KK in 1982 and can identify most of the snare line - starting on the right is Jeff Chubbs, Shane Morris, Scott Blandford and then I have a hard time seeing after that.
  22. Thanks for the compliments! I marched 83-88 Dutch Boy colour guard and yes we did tend to have a high return of guard members year to year. There are many, many photos in the old corps photos forum coutesy of old ohio. I loved being a member a Dutch Boys guard.
