  1. I agree with frontline and BMbob. The similarities that have developed between the uniforms are from functionality. Jackets have become shorter to allow easier movement and the longer pants makes the performer look taller. Shoulder pads make them look wider at the top and have a more filling presence on the field from far away. And gauntlets assist with the triangle made by horn players in playing position. All of those things can be seen in most corps. Does that make them "cookie cutter". Perhaps. But is that bad? No. The corps are going with what works. "To be different" is a pretty poor reason to settle for less effective uniforms. Cars in the 50s looked a lot different than today. They were boxier and less sleek. And now most cars have a more angled look. Why? Aerodynamics. Does it make many cars look similar? Yes. But it's because that design just works better. And the current drum corps uniforms just work better as well.
  2. I was a Finale user for a really long time. I was forced to switch when all of my friends(we all taught the same drumline) as switched to Sibelius. But it was a great move. Sib pwns.
  3. None of the above. I'll take the regular tradition Cadets uni without all of the nonsense on the back.
  4. YEAH. Aaron's accent is so funny to listen to, and Cedric is a bad###. I'm gonna add Steven M. Collins(AKA Chicken) to the list. He taught my HS drumline when I first joined in 2000, and he is the who reason why I got into band, music, and drumming at all. And then 2 years after I graduated, he taught me again at the Glassmen. That was a great time. Without Steve, I would never have known what any of this even is.
  5. I like the idea of keeping shows within the time constraints. Listen to the Bluecoats audio from 06. A lot of the beginning is cut off because of them playing before the time actually started. It would be nice if shows were designed with people being able to hear the whole thing in mind. And we can't just include everything before the announcement because if it catches on that would just add an indefinite amount of time to each audio track or mp3.
  6. I would bet that in any top 17 corps, less than 5% of the members have not been in band.
  7. Every director is only permitted 1 rule proposal submission every other year. Also, I agree with Drumkat about clarifying how judges penalize for poor amplification both due to technical malfunctions as well as poor performance on the part of the vocalists. If something is going to be in a show, it needs to be judged. And I also agree with stopping the pre-show movements. Mainly because it sucks for the DVDs and CDs. A good minute of Bluecoats show is cut off because they only put on the recording what was played after the show actually began. And any sort of pre-season "quality control" is one of the worst ideas ever. Who decides what is good and bad? The argum...discussions on DCP alone should prove that you will never get drum corps fans to agree on any standard of what is "good". And I mean that. Right now someone is thinking "well surely we can all agree that loud(or quiet, or happy, or sad, or jazz, or classical, or easy or hard, or etc...) music is good". And you're wrong. Whatever you think is good is just that. What YOU think is good. You have 21+ div I corps to choose from plus div II/III. Don't be selfish and demand every show be something YOU like. Let others have what they want.
  8. That's a good one. There can be a whole category of cliches about overhyping. "I caught 5 minutes of the 3rd bari's Friday night practice at the November camp and I can tell _______ is gonna win it this year!!" "______ was only in Quarters(or div II/III) last year, but I can tell, they are gonna be the darkhorse in Top 12 this year" Oh yeah. And who can forget "Blue Devils always win in years ending with 6" :P
  9. I think the fact that there is so much opposition and one would have to stoop to finding loopholes proves how bad of an idea WWs are.
  10. "________ may just have done great in div II/III, but I just know they're gonna be Top 12(or Top 5) div I in just a few years."
  11. Bingo. dbc03's post might as well have been the last on this thread, because that about summed up where this conversation is going from here.
  12. Actually...no. He said "I disagree completely". You really can't get any more respectful than that while still getting you opinion across. So to say that he "slid in and unnecessary smart remark" is pretty twisted. If you see disrespect and spite laced into the words "I disagree", you need to have your head checked. Get over yourself man. Hrothgar has his opinions, you have yours. He communicated his respectfully and with tact in his first post. I have yet to see that from you on this thread. And as for one having had to march to have an opinion. That's wrong as well. Drum corps takes two things to work: the corps, and the fans. Fans don't sit and watch nothing, and without the fans, the performance would have no purpose. So being a fan is just as integral to the activity as marching. They are the people cheering, listening, clapping, watching AND paying. Don't count a fans opinion out too soon, you may lose them altogether.
  13. The music from BD 05 is really good, it's just the talking that gets in the way. Though as narrated shows go, it's my favorite.
  14. for real. We don't see those comments often, but when we do, they're always ridiculous.
  15. Well it's a good thing there is a lot more to a drum corps show than brass.
  16. <**> Actually, he's right. One can't be a kid forever. I'm not sure if "now's the time" for the OP, but it's close. OP, what corps would you be marching for your ageout?
  17. I think it would take 20 years of good shows for me to like a corps again if they did a my chemical romance show. No offense to you NeutralNovice, I just can't stand MTVpunk.
  18. I also have a strong hatred for Phantom 04, 05, and 06. Though 03 is my favorite Phantom show.
  19. I feel the exact opposite. Cavies 2000 was such a bad### intense show, when I see the sappy smilefest of Cadets 2000, I just can't stand it. :)
  20. It may also be because it's just a camp. There are prospective members, volunteers, school people, and most importantly...parents, all around the building during camps. And this is also a new home and school. They want to make a good impression. Once they get out on tour, there are no parents making a fuss, and the members are in for the season. There is a much less chance for some random trouble maker mixing things up like there would be at a camp. I would bet that the boy/girl split is only for camps.
  21. 2002 Cavaliers. I saw them all season, but the first time was very early in Orlando. I knew they would win the season. That show was just too perfect, and they executed it flawlessly. There was just no room at any time during the entire season for any other corps to even make a real move to even catch up with them.
  22. Dinkles look better, but MTXes are more comfortable.
