  1. There's one member of the colorguard I know of.
  2. Fran, it's always great hearing your voice at any drum corps show. Great job once again last night! It was great seeing you afterwards on the field. It's pretty nice having championships in our back yard, isn't it???
  3. I just saw the Buccaneers' video posted on here. What a very classy move by the corps to leave Geoff Silver's spot open. I'm sure he was marching with them in tonight in spirit.
  4. The thing I will remember about him is that he always had fun. It could've been 95 degrees and 300% humidity, and he was still completely into being out there on the field and enjoying every minute of it. RIP Geoff. It's always your home show.
  5. Yes she did. 8:28 this morning. 10 lb 8 oz baby boy. 21.5 inches long. Sounds like he's going to be a tuba player just like mommy.
  6. Good luck with the show, Dan. Since Chambersburg is as close as DCA gets to me, I'm gonna try to make it up to the Chambersburg NFL stadium this year. It was a great venue to play in last year, and I can't wait to actually see a show there.
  7. Usually at this point, the corps has been outside since early April. Dynamics, balance, and such have been adjusted for the outdoors. It's not designed to be contained by walls. (Anybody who was at the Winston-Salem indoor performance in 2005 knows what I'm talking about. I'm surprised the room was still standing by the end of the night.) But if you wanted echo Saturday night, you should've been in the gym when the hornline was warming up!
  8. Some of us lead baris were stacking a few notes in the encore ;)
  9. Matt certainly said it best. It was definitely a moment that brought a lot of emotion to me before our final performance. I distinctly remember seeing MBI and Hurcs, but I know there were others there that I just can't remember. The moment was so surreal and overwhelming that it was almost impossible to take it all in. Thank you everyone for your support and congratulations on a wonderful season. Best of luck in 2008.
  10. Thanks for the kind words, Fran. It was great hearing your voice once again as we were taking the field. And congrats to the Sunrisers on a wonderful season! Fran, I hope all is still going well with Barb. Somewhere in the middle of our opener, I saw a lady sitting down low with what looked like (at 174 beats per minute) an Orioles hat on. I know she wasn't making the trip to Rochester, but for a second I thought, "That would be great if that was Barb!"
  11. I don't think the camera had a good mic on it. I had another camera on me for part of the rehearsal, and it wasn't much of a mic to speak of on that one.
  12. Fran, I'm glad to hear that things are improving. I wish you and Barb well.
  13. I never knew that group existed. Granted, I would've been 12 at the time. But still, I'm surprised I had never heard of it.
  14. Fran, you and Barb are definitely in my thoughts and prayers. Best wishes to two great drum corps people.
  15. When I teach, I have everyone in unison for buzzing and singing exercises. Usually after buzzing (usually on concert F), I have everyone play that note unison, and then I'll do some stuff from there (going up and down chromatically or through the scale). All of the written warmups past that have the mellophones placed down a 4th. This keeps the same valve series as the other brass and minimizes multiple valve combinations when I want to work on lip slurs or broken chords between partials.
  16. Thanks for the review. I saw you and Kelly at rehearsal. Sorry I didn't get a chance to come over and say hi. I hope you two are doing well.
  17. Bucs hornline :wub:s Jami :) Can't wait till you join us outside. (Bring sunscreen. I kinda forgot that part last weekend)
  18. John, it was good to see Gold tonight. I really enjoyed your show (albeit I was seeing it from the side at the Bucs truck). Best of luck to you guys next weekend. Congrats Bucs on another victory!
  19. This is a rare weekend where being a Caballero would be a closer drive for you than being a Buccaneer :P
  20. I meant to do this before I went away for the weekend, but oh well. I'm a few days late. Some quick hits from Westminster... Jersey Surf: I heard an early version of the music at the Reading Buccaneers Spring Preivew in mid May. I think it's an intelligently written book, but it lacks impact. I heard this hornline in warm up and has potential to be really good. Finish phrases and play with confidence and they'll be ok. Some empty space in the design could be looked at. Magic: My big complaint is that the balance was far from stellar. The drums KILLED the hornline in volume. I have to agree with the earlier comment about the Bach piece. I see the intention, but it's one of those situations where if you don't pull it off perfectly, it's going to knock you down badly. Spirit: Nothing specific I can think of. I think this is a show that has promise and needs to be cleaned. The hornline impressed me a little more than I expected. Crossmen: I LOVE the concept. I think there were definitely some first show jitters. It seemed to me that the opener kinda missed the mark. But as a performer, there are those parts of the show you really enjoy, and I think that part for this corps was the "Radio Sequence" From that point on, I heard and saw a different and more confident corps. The score they wound up with at the end was probably right for that night. But if they can clean it, it'll be good. Boston Crusaders: Holy Pillars Batman. I was afraid that the props were going to be too much of a distraction, and at first they might have been. But they did a good job with the movement to depict the music. Nice ensemble sound and visual. I could've used more dynamic variance though throughout the whole show. I had them above Carolina Crown because.... Carolina Crown: This corps must have an "all music no feet" approach early in the year. Last year at Westminster, their feet were such a distraction from the show. This year was the same. I don't think it was as bad, but a top Div 1 corps should not have the feet problems I was seeing. It's a shame because that hornline can turn it on like nobody's business. Something an instructor I had used to say was, "You have no right to have an impact if you don't build up to it." When they aren't at an impact, they do have a little trouble sustaining phrases and building up to their impacts. But their impacts....wow! Once they iron that out and get their feet in time, it'll be another good corps this year. Phantom Regiment: Yeah...the usual awesome sound of Phantom Regiment. That's the best way to put it. They are so musical with everything they do. And it's not with the glitz and glamour of fancy prop or amp stuff. They go out there, lay it out, and go on their merry way. I absolutely love that. Nice show this year. Possible top 5 material. Cadets: If I saw this show about 10 more times, I'd understand it more. It's a whole heck of a lot going on and only 11 minutes to see it all. As much as people talk about all that's going on, let's not forget that they execute VERY well. Though with so much going on, sometimes it's easy to miss mistakes because it all gets lost. The musician side of me liked the singing opening. The traditional drum corps side of me wonders if this is steering the activity in a direction that's going to benefit corps who have more resources. I'd rather see a corps win based on talent rather than based on money. They definitely won the show hands down. I think the ballad is beautiful with what I think is a good use of the amps. Could be a repeat. Now only if they'd do it without a door on the field.
