  1. Sounds like an excellent idea. What say you DCI and DCA?
  2. IMO, with the recent staff additions including Jim Mason and Jim Prime, I am highly confident that the Scouts will not only be a very entertaining corps over the years, but also very competitive as well. With a wealth of such a talented and creative staff, how can they fail?
  3. As a former member and staff person, I can personally attest to the fact one needs to take time off and decompress after a long and exhausting season. Give the WC corps a break. Lert them reenergize. Sometime after Labor Day I am certain most will update all their fans on changes and plans for 2010.
  4. True, however, seeing they are no longer affiliaed with the Holy Name church this may not be practical. I always liked the Cadets of Bergen County name myself.
  5. That's an understatement. If, god forbid, that day ever comes about it will be the final nail in the activity's coffin. The final embarassment, the final degratation, the final depraved act. The activity will have lost all respect from it's peers. Woodwinds belong in a concert hall and not on the football field. Certainly not in a "drum corps!"
  6. Sort of. I mentioned to her that I was happy she decided to become one of us "carnival types." She just smiled. Never had much to do with her after that. She marched two years and then I never saw her again. She was one beautiful girl.
  7. As of today, the only difference between "drum corps" and marching bands are the woodwinds. Hopefully it will never come to that addition in the horn line.
  8. With the advent of the new instrumentation in brass, none in recent years.
  9. ALL corps should try to be more fan friendly and entertaining. Bring back some of the excitement that has been lacking over the years. A little nostalgia would be a weclomed refreshing change.
  10. Hup234 speaks the truth. As he/she said, if the dreaded woodwinds, heaven forbid, are added to the activity then "drum corps" has morphed into nothing more then marching band. If that god awful day ever comes about then that is the day I will drop all forms of affiliation and promotion the activity. I have accepted moderation in limited use, I have accepted synthesizers but woodwinds I can not and will not accept in a drum corps. Enough is enough already!
  11. Agreed! There is not much difference anymore! "Drum corps" lost it's identity years ago.
  12. I remember taking a gf to a local drum corps show. This while I was still a marching member. It was painfully obvious she didn't enjoy the experience. One comment in particular was very offensive. She said the drum corps people reminded her of "carnival types." Perhaps her being from Beverly Hills had something to do with her offensive and pius atitude? Needless to say I never dated her again, my choice! Ironically, a year later I saw her again at, of all things, a drum corps show. Much to my surprise she had joined a rival corps and was in the guard!! I guess she changed her mind and decided to join the ranks of us "carnival types." The irony of it all!
  13. BD won that night because they were the best corps on the field. Nothing more, nothing less.
  14. Just goes to show exactly how depraved and out of touch with reality some of these evangelical conservatives can be. Rumor has it Anton LeVey is actively seeking a position on the BD BOD. Sarcaism off.
  15. As long as we are airing our thoughts on the 2009 season, my pick for the most boring corps of 2009 are (in no particular order;) Cavaliers, Glassmen, Blue Knights, Madison Scouts, Crossmen and Pioneers. IMO, they were all boring with a capital B!
  16. Considering the huge advancements and successes for Crown over the years, it looks as if they know exactly what they are doing. Why change a good thing? If it isn't broken, don't fix it!
  17. A bit dated, son't you think? Have you checked recent scores?
  18. Outside of warm ups, the weather should not matter. After all, Lucas is an enclosed stadium.
  19. Thirteen of us saw the quarter finals presentation at a theater in southern California. Everyone in my party were alumni of various California corps. We all agreed that it was a very enjoyable show. The sound was excellent, same for the picture. The seating was very comfortable, same for the temperature inside the auditorium. The audience was receptive and polite. One thing we did notice was the sound coming from the old G bugles when they showed the Classic Moments segments. The old G horns were obviously much louder, however, the tonal quality, etc was obviously much better with the new horns. We are planning on doing this again next year. Also, way to go BD, you deserved your score. Bravo to Vanguard, Crown, HNC and Phantom....excellent performances! We all agreed Troopers deserve a Top 12 spot, however, much to my surprise, I really enjoyed the Colts this year.
  20. IMO, it wasn't that great of an accomplishment. However, I guess 21st place is better then 22nd! I saw them once at last night's theater showing. I thought they got what they deserved. Oviously I was not that impressed, especially with all the preseason hype.
  21. Simply stated I do not include DCA in my over all response to this post. IMO, unless certain DCI units make their shows more accessible, entertaining and fan friendly, the future does not look bright. I know we have been through this time after time, however, this is exactly how I feel. Flames rejected.
  22. IMHO, now that DCI saw fit to add more instruments to I&E (i.e clarinets.kazoos, accordions, air guitars, wax paper and comb, etc, etc.) I say end the madness immediately.
  23. Although I disagree with some, if not most, of George's ideas to "improve" and change the activity, I do respect the man for all that he has done with the Cadets and YEA. His dedication is to be admired.
