  1. Now, if you really want to get into a discussion about judges: How are judges selected for what shows and for what captions? Try to get the answer to that. Does DCI pick them out of a hat randomly? Who makes the selections for the majors and finals week? The head judge? The corps? the DCI artistic director? The DCI board? Dan Aitcheson? If you find out the answer to this, you get a gold star!!!!! Good luck!
  2. I am sure Deborah can back up why she called (judged) a show the way she did. She would not continue to consistently be a judge at majors for as long as she has if she couldn't. As far as drops go, you are correct, drops are not judged as they once were ie.... a tick per drop etc... but, make no mistake about it. If you have numerous drops, especially at high impact moments, and the momentum of the moment is disrupted by it, or you see drops outright numerous times throughout a show, you will be docked for it. With so many good guards and only tenths separating some from others, if a guard with basically the same level of difficulty, but one is dropping more than the other, the less dropping corps is going to get the judges tenth over the other. Same goes for timing issues
  3. Deborah, has been around for many years. She is one of the top judges and calls it like she sees it.....and will not be intimidated. She has heard this kind of griping before. Every corps at one time or another through the years has been on the critical side of Deborah. It often makes corps work harder and take a good look at themselves. Hard to pull the wool over her eyes. Could it be cavies just didn't have a good show? She will not reward you for drops or timing issues that is a given.
  4. I dont have that authority, but as with many, all seem to have an idea what is best for Madison,.... but talk is cheep. I encourage all who think they know what is best, to contact Madison and offer your time, money, and take on a position of leadership and accountability rather than just talking about it. Its very easy to criticize and tear down, its the building up that is difficult part, the part most run from.
  5. Are you volunteering to be on the board or to be the director????
  6. too bad that Blue Stars, Cadets and Blue Knights are not preforming on the same night in Allentown. Would like to see them back to back. Blue Stars seem to have a lot of momentum right now
  7. Yes indeed. Great job tonight Blue Stars, over BK tonight and 1.238 from Cadets with 2 weeks to go. If this trend continues, should be an exciting competition come finals week!
  8. I am interested to know what the acoustics are like in this stadium. Has there ever been a band show competition done in this stadium? I will be interested to hear how people in the audience say they can hear the corps and what the sound is like
  9. I was going to say, I thought water was barred from the field due to safety reasons. If I am not mistaken, I think that rule went into effect following the year Magic did the pirate show spewing water all over the field and making it slippery for the corps following them.
  10. Makes sense. all of the air conditioning would go through the roof. Not to mention the cost associated with having to cool that place down again.
  11. Stars may have done even better if a guard judge had been there. Guard has been one of their stronger captions. although not at the same show, the gap keeps getting smaller between Blue Stars and Cadets. Now within a point, if this trend continues, should be interesting going into finals week. Time will tell, Atlanta should be interesting.
  12. Blue Stars closing the gap a little between themselves and Cadets. When was the last time Blue Stars beat Cadets in visual and brass? Been quite some time for sure. I would venture to say they have not done so since 1979 or 80. Should be a nice battle going into finals week if this trend continues.
  13. I would add early 80's Cadets to this list. I can remember sitting in the stands watching the Cadets fast paced drill and z pull for the first time and thinking to myself I could not believe what I was seeing. That type of drill, and fast paced marching just blew me away. I thought to myself no one was anywhere close to doing something like that at the time and just wow. Hard to believe that when looking at the old tapes today and what corps are doing now, but at the time it was mind blowing. It is really fun to be apart of seeing something like this. When a show reaches the legendary level you will know it.... you will have a sense of jaw dropping awe you simply cannot explain unless you experience it.
  14. to me a legendary show has to transform and transcend the activity. Set a new standard and move the activity in a different direction not anticipated or seemingly possible at the time its initiated. Dispite being very good, not sure SCV reaches that threshold with this show.
  15. I agree completely with this post. Real battle shaping up for the 12 spot
  16. i have heard this as well. The kids seem to be really excited about it. Looking forward to the match up with Cadets once again. Good luck to all. sounds like a good show
  17. wow, what an interesting site. How you find the time to do this amazes me. I enjoy reading this every day.
  18. wish i could be at this show. sounds like a nice venue and crowd
  19. I have to side with Mozart. People often don't realize genus when they see it. All things new are often looked at with skepticism because it pushes them into new territory.....which can be uncomfortable at first.
  20. As the cleaning continues to happen in all areas and the planned changes are put in, well, we will see where the stars sore to. Is a very fan friendly, engaging, fun, but technical show for sure. Be it tape measures, wood, hammers, or extension cord choreography, all sections are engaged and doing added work throughout the show! Not to mention they are actually MARCHING! Pay particular attention to the hammer work and interaction work with the sawhorses the guard does..... divine for sure. And those un-mic'ed horns (except for soloists) nice nice nice!!. Watching this show on video (TV) does not do it justice. You need to see it live to capture it all. Most importantly, the kids are preforming the hell out of this show and genuinely appear to be enjoying their time out on the field. What a breath of fresh air!!!!!!!! GO BLUE STARS!!!!!!!!!!
