liebot
EAST COAST JAZZ TO REMAIN INACTIVEAlthough the percussion attendance at our recent Open Housewas excellent and the colorgurad atendance showed pronmise for the springending of WGI, the brass attendance was very dissapointing. After a meeting with staff and management it was decided that the problem regarding the lack of brass players would be difficult to overcome. Rather thandelay a decision about the coming year it would be better to inform those whoi attended the camp rather than have them miss out on other opportunities elsewhere. Audition fees paid by the attendees will be refunded. Youth In The Arts, Inc.,the sponoring organization, will continue in its efforts to raise funds to pay off the remaining debts. ECJ Website I'd like to see some actual discussion of this news as opposed to the closing of every thread regarding ECJ. And because I started it, I can guarantee that it won't be closed by the author's request. So what does everyone think? Frankly, I'm not really surprised, and I'm glad this has happened because I'd rather see no ECJ than one that's a shadow of its former self. Props to the management staff for making the correct, mature decision.

What's happened to this organization is incredibly unfortunate, and it's upsetting to realize that there is a possibility that this corps may never come back at all. They had a style unmatched by any other corps in DCI, and performed enjoyable and technical shows at such a high level. What's most impressive is how talented they were in all sections considering the state of high school band programs in the Northeast (let's not lie, to say that there are only a handful of "great" band programs in Massachusetts may be an overstatement). Here's to hoping they return at some point in the future. The Northeast can't keep losing corps. There are already too few in an area that once took pride in the fact that it had many successful corps.

Props to the management staff for making the correct, mature decision. You are so right, this is what I've been thinking all along. I hate to see something that was so special to me come out and be a joke in the drum corps world. It seems that for the first time since Fred left, there seems to be a brain at the front of the organization. Thank you Dave Grist, who ever you are! Slides of Mass Destruction
I'm sad now. It was the best decision; I know that, but it's still depressing.
Tom Brace
This is the best move. Now, the corps has an opportunity to get all the past unpaid debt retired like a responsible not-for-profit youth organization and work on getting the pieces put back together. Good luck and for the person who had a camera at audtion camp but "forgot" to take any pictures, it's ok...you can put the camera away for at least another year.
