You guys know the Seattle Cascades folded...

Recommended Posts

I mean, it came as a shock to ME. And I only just found out about it.

I guess they only had 20 people show up for camp this year.

I hope the O.C. can keep up some good Northwest corps status forever....

Not folded, just inactive. Check the website and you'll see

I never understood why they left Seattle last year in the first place.

Still, my former teaching colleague Jim Wren said it best back in 1973: "Drum Corps is a house of cards."

Inactive = folded, my friend (who isn't marching THIS year! grrrr!)

Even if you call it "folded for a year".

Usually, a year off results in fiascos like the Troopers, or Valley Fever. From top of the class, to struggling just to put a corps on the road.

It was a big topic of conversion on DCP for several days.

The O.C. is not the only Corps in the Northwest.I'm greatful though that they are still going strong. We will miss Seattle Cascades and hope for their speedy return.

Spokane Thunder is still in existance. We are still fielding a Corps and will be going on tour ending in Bloomington. We still have some spots open. Anyone looking to help keep Drum Corps ALIVE in the Inland Northwest go to www.Spokanethunder.org

SUPPORT "OPEN CORPS"!!! :tongue::thumbup::tongue:

Folded means they've packed up their tents and are off the face of the earth and are selling equipment.

Inactive means the group is still around, just won't be on the field this summer.

There is a difference.

That may mean something or nothing at all. VK went "inactive" in 1980, but that didn't mean we folded the tents. In fact we were quite "active", just not in the normal drum corps sense. Lots of parades, standstills, pretty much any opportunity to perform.

The corps had also accumulated a lot of spare "stuff" over the previous 17 years, and we liquidated a lot of it, including brass. Maybe this listing is just one of the things they're doing as part of the corps' reorganization. If there's a lot of stuff in storage, and you can get rid of it to close that storage unit and save the monthly rent, that's moving in the right direction, especially if finances are a big part of the reorganization.

Here's another post in support of the return of the Cascades.
