Galen
I hope all this silence on Galen's part means he's AWED by CROWN!! Yep! Crowd was on their feet before the show was over! ####, that's a hornline!!! There is some AMAZINGLY difficult arranging that's here, and they pulled it off pretty well tonight. The biggest issue seems to be getting everything to line up. The horns are spread out a lot of the time, which makes it extra hard to get everything to line up perfectly. If they can pull it altogether by finals night, look out. Re: Candide- "Yes, they played it tonight"- both in the opener AND the closer. And WHAT A CHORD to end the show. If you thought "the chord" from last year was something, wait till you see and hear this. Now tonight it didn't grow that much and just sat there, but that will be huge by the end of the year. Ok, Cavies are up next. I had some harsh criticism of this show in Pt. Huron- let's see what they can do tonight.
chaos001
Regiment just finished up. What a sound!!!Lots of intricate details in their show, including: The Spartacus "love theme" returning, first as a beautiful extended mello solo into a full corps hit. The backfield DM marching through a form during the ballad, sneaking up behind a guard member and slitting her throat Big fight scene, complete with goose-step marching from the horns, a "testudo" (turtle shell) formation from that guard, marching machines and carnage on the field. A rotating sword at the end- first thought was they were borrowing from Star's cross in '91 "I Am Spartacus" quotes from the guard and horns synced up with drum hits- not sure if they want any audience participation here or not. BIG PROPS for the drums actually playing a cadence off the field- everybody else has been taps so far. Up next- Crown! Also- I'm starting to feel a couple raindrops as the skies darken up. Crown and Cavies are the last two corps to go- hopefully we can beat the weather. this is supposed to be the guard girl portraying Phrygia (Spartacus' wife)...killing her is what's supposed to lead them into battle. albeit this doesn't coincide with the Ballet

That show of theirs should be pretty sweet. The arranger (brass anyway) has always been one of the best in the activity. Michael Klesch. He arranged for Garfield from 1985 - 1988, then from 1990 - 1992. He has obviously done Candide and some of those other tunes before, but his style is incredibly difficult and very exposed. People often forget that he arranged the legendary Appalachian Spring show the Cadets did in 1987. JW
