hairbear
I recieved the following up-date,via email, from cozys family,at 11/21/08 @8:07 p.m.: "the medical staff reports that they have begun the process of weaning cozy off the respirator,by adjusting the oxygen level from 60% to 50%,and have decreased the respirations from 24 to 20.the infection in cozys lungs is still an issue, however. his therapist indicated the fluid coming from his lungs has shown improvement.his blood count was @21 which is borderline.if his bone marrow is not producing enough,he may need blood.there has been no decision as yet,as to the duration of the antibiotic regimen, from 2 weeks or 4 to 8 weeks." i took the liberty of abbreviating the email to give all of you the clinical facts as they are now.it is obvious that cozy will have a long battle.please keep him in your prayers and thoughts. more up-dates,as i recieve them from his family. TennTux
I've just learned that long-time Drum Corps World writer and drum corps icon Cozy Baker (and DCP Contributing Editor) is in the critical care unit of the VA hospital near his home in Alabama - suffering from a severe reaction to antibiotics given to treat a staph infection. Cozy's brother contacted me just a short time ago to provide the very basic information, as a lot more is not known at this time, other than he's in the Critical Care Unit.I'll be sure to post updates as I receive them. In the mean time, please keep our friend and colleague in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you. -john Our prayers go out to Cozy and his family... Speedy recovery my friend... TomPeashey
if it had to happen... let's be glad it happened in Alabama where he could get REAL medical attention... a few weeks later and it might have happened in some remote corner of Mexico and Lord knows what kind of medical treatment he would have received... has to be a positive somewhere in this... Cozy... you get on your feet and fully recovered - then we'll let you make your winter trek to sing in those dingy Mexican haunts you love so much... hang in there - everyone's pulling for you...
