Charlie Haas passes away

Recommended Posts

It is with great sadness that I pass on the news that my father, Charlie Haas, passed away on January 3, 2009. My Dad had been battling leukemia for the past several months and was just admitted to the VA Hospice in Lebanon, PA on December 29, 2008. A viewing will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home in Lebanon, PA on Thursday, January 8th. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 9th. Exact times for the viewing and services have not yet been determined.

As some of you are aware, both of my parents were very involved with drum corps in the 60's and 70's. Up until the time she passed away last February, my Mom, Jackie, often spoke of the time she and my father spent video taping in those early years. My Dad had many fond memories as well and up until just a few weeks ago, he and I would talk on the phone and he would share some of the stories he and my mother spoke of throughout the years.

My Mom's death was sudden last year and was a very difficult time in our lives. My Dad's illness lasted several months and even though we had some time to prepare for the inevitable outcome, it is still difficult to believe that he is gone. He is with my Mom now and no longer suffering and that is perhaps the greatest comfort of all.

I remember your family from your family's brief time with our corps - (Chris, you were just a tike, then). I remember what a matched pair they were and how you guys were all great together.

I hope Mike and Terry are fine, they were fun, too.

Gosh, your mom and dad helped chaperone and did all that video work at the shows.

Thanks to their dedication and hard work and outright love for the activity, many of us have precious memories preserved. I watch my videos often and think of them each time.

Heartfelt thanks to them and especially your father at this time for a lifetime well spent in service to others and to you Chris for continuing to offer the memories they collected.

My deepest condolences and sympathy to you and your family.

Your mom and dads passion and support for this wonderful activity has given a lot of us the ability to see and relive some of the greatest moments of our lives. Those videos they did, and that you now make availible, are a priceless part of history. Thank you all.

My condolances for your loss.
