SkyDog
The most obscure corps I remember competing against were the Northern Lights from Longview, WA, who had 14 members at the time in 1990. I think they fielded a corps for two seasons and eventually morphed into a winterguard.
Jocko the Wonder Llama
Let me add a couple of others: Sun Country Wranglers - Phoenix(?), AZ West Coast Express - Los Angeles, CA Redwood City Guardsmen - Redwood City, CA

I vaguely remember reading about them....don't remember them being out of Longview tho....that was Mauradesrs' country. I thought they came out of a different city. audiodb
The most obscure corps is the one that isn't even mentioned in this thread (whoever they are). Here's one for y'all. I saw Gulf Coast Sound's only competitive performance. Not the senior corps from Houston....this was a junior from Biloxi, MS, that traveled to Rocky Mount, NC, in 1998. No battery, no guard, just eight horns and seven pit. What is surprising about them is that they were the best new American junior corps of the year (admittedly, a year surprisingly short on new entries). stoods59
These are some of the more obscure junior corps that have existed at some point during the DCI era, of which I've personally seen eight: Avengers-- Chittanango, NY Blue Mists-- Manhattan Beach, CA Brigadiers-- Au Sable Forks, NY Buccaneers-- Tuckerton, NJ Cannoneers-- Gettysburg, PA Captivators-- Paradise Valley, AZ Centurions-- Edmonton, ALB Chevaliers-- Loveland, OH Counsellors-- Brooklyn, NY El Capitans-- Carson, CA Footmen-- Grand Rapids, MI Gladiators-- Kingston, NH Indian Raiders-- Baldwin, FL Keystone Guard-- Pittsburgh, PA Knight Riders-- Boston, MA Le Sabres-- Fort Lauderdale, FL Nemesis-- Brown Deer, WI Northern Lights-- Stillwater, MN Puget Sound Pirates-- Seattle, WA Red Knights-- San Leandro, CA Scorpions-- San Diego, CA Shawnee Indians-- Lockport, NY Sound Storm-- Hartford, WI Sounds of Indy-- Indianapolis, IN Sterling Regiment-- Tulsa, OK Thunderherd-- Sahara, PA Warriors-- Scottsdale, AZ Zenith-- Trenton, MI 1st Illinois Volunteers-- Wheeling, Iquote] I used to march against the Chittenango Avengers! They wore all black uniforms that were very hot, used to see a couple of them get sick or pass out in each parade we were in.
michsta8
I marched in the Eau Claire Boys in the late 60's and we competed in what I remember being called the "northern circuit" which was basically northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Some of the "more obscure" corps I remember are: The Blue Notes, Ishpeming, Mi Brass Regiment, Park Falls, Wi Mountaineers, Ontonogan, Mi Northernaires, Menominee, Mi Silver Echoes. Munising, Mi Bells of St. Marys, Rhinelander, Wi Others off the top of my head from "down south" near Milwaukee were The Windjammers, Port Washington, Wi St. Mathias, Milw Shoreliners, Kenosha, Wi Queensmen, Kenosha, Wi I believe the only representation from this list on DCP I remember seeing is someone from the Northernaires. If there are any Eau Claire Boys out there June 20th there will be a reunion in E.C. followed by a show Sunday night the 21st at UW Stout. michsta8
I can recall three other corps: West Bend Wranglers The Chordaliers(from the Milwaukee area) and: The 32nd Hussars from Madison Kate Sorry, Don't forget the Marquette Majestics, Ironwood blue Knights and the Castle Rangers (munising)
ffernbus3
Re: Redwood City Guardsmen - Redwood City, CA Not THAT obscure....I taught brass and wrote for them in 1972, though they didn't make it onto the field that year. There's lots of California corps nobody ever heard of. Example: The Antlers. They were a small Elks-club sponsored drum, bugle, bell, majorette and probably some other stuff thrown in there parade corps in the late 50s and early 60s out of Burbank, CA. They were the first corps I marched with from circa 1959 to 1965. And there was the San Fernando Valley Young Americans...I taught them in 1970. Maybe they had 5 brass on a good night....truly more people have heard of The Fresno Ferns! RON HOUSLEY
gsksun4
The Portsmen from Port Jefferson, Long Island. Provided members to the Selden Cadets, then on to the Sunrisers and Skyliners. Any truth to the rumors that some made their way down to the port and actually set loose some of the barges?
