dugg
I expect the same from every year. People are going to wonder why Crown isn't number 1, Bluecoats guard score will stall around mid July, BD will be tossing the highest and dancing the best, Crown will have the hardest flag book, and Cadets are going to be super crisp with their weapon technique. your pithy comments rival some of my own.btw i got a chuckle out of this and had to laugh at myself a little bit! Will
I'm rooting for the Colts color guard and, of course my all time favorite, the Blue Knights (complete with yet another gorgeous series of hand painted flags) : )

byline
my sources report a very positive start for the madison scouts color guard with around 30 talented performers under contract at this time!the costumes made by dance sophisticates are very masculine in apprearance and reflective of a brand new image for this beloved guard.looking forward to seeing this program come to life. Great news!
dugg
-our arms start from the back because they were once wings- -m graham- with a fixation bordering on obsession designers of pageantry have drawn from the well that is aaron copeland and martha graham many many times before with varying degrees of satisfaction and or fulfillment, this summer it's the santa clara vanguard interpreting copeland [again] in a show resourcefully titled "ballet for martha". i understand the guard is extremely proficient and reports are they will be fantastic performing a program chock-a-block-full-o-graham technique and signatures, contraction and release, falls, oppositional pull, parallel turnouts, choreographed by carol abahotab, including impeccable equipment vocabulary by greg lagola and jim moore, flags by alan spaeth and costumes by bobby moffett[did you know HALSTON was a huge supporter of martha?]. i expect great things from this guard and i doubt i'll be dissapointed. Musical_Spinner
Martha Graham's technique is hardly even relevant in the day and age of contemporary style and neo-modern dance. How they heck SCV's guard is going to make that into a modern day aesthetic is going to be a huge undertaking. (blackwatch comes to mind from 2004....that show was powerful and had a great climax/ending)

My 2nd favorite Blackwatch show ever, by the way.

dfprguard14
Have an eye out for the Phantom Regiment colorguard! Rick Subel had some crazy twirls going on at April camp and M.James put out some scandalous and snoody Fosse type movement....that is all I can say but this summer will be theatric one indeed (in my biased opinion lol)
Puppet
Hi there, I'm just an old Mellophone player but sometimes I see something that says: "NEW, NEW DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT!" That's not me shouting it's the idea. So - do you have an instructor with some ... chops ... here's something to steal, copy, emulate, rip off, incorporate so that your guard (whether they are part of a whole corps or not) and BTW sometimes something from 500 BC can be so forward thinking that it makes what is going on in the 21st Century look B O R I N G! Got game? Check it! Just saying ... everything old is new again! And cooler than the other side of the pillow. Puppet
