A Toast to the corps that are gone

Recommended Posts

That maybe the only time in drum corps history that this has occured. I suspect Tom, you'll find out. I owe my learning how to play a horn at age 14 while in

the Royalaires in San Leandro,Ca from Stockton Caballero instructor/arranger/soloist AJ Vierra formerly of the Springfield Marksmen from Springfield,Ma. I

heard he has returned to Springfield and now works with the Marksmen Alumni. Thanks AJ !!! and have great new year Tom.

...we 60's VK's LOVED the "Cabs" (to the dismay of our Culver City Imperial friends)...at nats in '65 they woke the "real" Cabs up while Hawthorne was waitng under the stands, one of the comments I heard was "Holy s**t! Who's THAT?!" when Stockton hit the stands with their opening fanfare...then, when they started to move to the 50 it was "...whew! They can't drum!" LOL, yeah, they had their problems drumming, but what a #####in' sound! Ben, I sat with Herbie Wilcox and AJ at DCA's in '05 at Scranton...still a very creative guy!

" Amboy Dukes " Perth Amboy, N.J.

(and the Junior Corps "Jersey Cyclones" of that area

of Keyport/Matawan/Perth Amboy had some connection to them)

How about the "Jersey Devils"? Weren't they a Senior Corps. Remember the "Little Devils" the Jr Corps.

and YES, The (B.S.)" Golden Knights " competed in the 1975 DCA Championships. Came in 13th. One spot out of Finals. (Same year Blue Rock competed as a Sr. Corps.)

For some reason, I seem to think the Fort Edward, N.Y. "Vagabonds" also competed as a Sr Corps at some time.

Here are the names of some of Corps that I (WE) competed against and I haven't seen listed thus far.

Kingston Grenadiers

Shoremen, Pulaski NY

Smiths Falls OYB Lamplighters

Kawartha Kavaliers

Dunkirk Patriots

Brass, Inc.

A visit to http://drumcorpswiki.com/RCA should bring back a lot of names and memories

John - they aren't gone..Brass, Inc. just put "Minnesota" on the front of the name..I still have one of the blue windbreaker uni jackets and my last shako from BITD..('72 to be exact)..

Early to Mid 80's,..................

In one form or another Fort Edward had a drum corps from 1934 to 1983.

Some bigtime names came out of those corps, Brad and Ray Longdo to name two.

Thanks Don, but I'm chumpchange to those guys, they were legendary. Another one was George J.B. Ross, who went on to march with I-men, Brigs and Sky.
