year1buick
Glassmen: Buick. Conservative, middle of the road styling. Every once in a while comes out with something like the “Grand National”, but mostly is known for the “Roadmaster”. Already taken. (By a particular section of a particular corps.) Actually, a similar analogy from our brass caption head in 94, comparing different sections of the corps to car models, is how we got the nickname. Specifically, it was in regards to a FFF 3-note passage played by the baritones at the beginning of White Witch Doctor. (Later on he started referring to it as the Buick mating call...) CrunchyTenor
Saturn Sky - caught everyone by surprise but now there are differing opinions of what it's future will be. Considering it was also badged as the Pontiac Solstice, Opel GT and had plans to market it under the Vauxhall name in the UK, and all those names are going away/for sale, it's not the best choice for a corps=car. chadwick
Very creative thread! I'd love to hear some ideas on the following corps that haven't been mentioned at all or much: Blue Stars Blue Knights Crown Pacific Crest Jersey Sury Cascades Santa Clara Vanguard
DAvery
Avery, you ought to be ashamed of yourself! There is only one car that could represent The Cavaliers:The Aston Martin DB5 - the original James Bond car from Goldfinger. Of course, the DBS V-12 from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace ain't too shabby. The millenium guys use that one. Let's see: 1965 DB5 - 0-60 in 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 142 MPH. !984 Porsche 911 Turbo (called the 930 in the US)- 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 173 MPH. While I agree with the Bond connection, the DB5 does project an image and personality that could be "Cavalier-ish", it was bloated and underpowered as compared to the 911. Aston Martin is owned by Tata Motors of India, having been purchased from Ford. Porsche is independent. The DB5 does have an air of sophistication about it that the 911 does not have. The 911 is fast and nimble, which the DB5 is not. Porsche has a racing heritage that Aston Martin does not. Neither car would typically be driven by a female. I've never driven a DB5 (but I have owned a Jaguar XJ12), but I have driven a few 911's. I get the idea that with the 911, it's all about function and not style. I've always thought creature comforts; such as power windows, etc.; in the 911 are added begrudgingly. The 911 is not a highway cruiser, it's made for the "twisties". The 911 is not an easy car to drive. One moment of daydreaming and you will find yourself up the side of a tree. The 911 is pure athleticism. Here is what wiki says about Porsche: In a May 2006 survey, Porsche was awarded the title of the most prestigious automobile brand..... Porsche was awarded the 2006 J.D. Power and Associates award for the highest-ranked nameplate in its Initial Quality Study (IQS) of automobile brands. As a company, Porsche is known for weathering changing market conditions...... Porsche has for many years offered consultancy services to various other car manufacturers. I stand by my original analogy. madscout96
Santa Clara: Mercedes S-Class. Timeless, refined, smooth, and deceptively fast. "S-Class" derives from the German word "Sonderklasse" . Sonderklasse means "special class". I think THIS is the Mercedes you mean Santa Clara Vanguard to be...
madscout96
Also, excuse me for being unoriginal here, but ... Wouldn't the Cavaliers be a Chevy Cavalier? And wouldn't the Troopers be an Isuzu Trooper? And wouldn't Spirit be a Dodge Spirit? And wouldn't Phantom Regiment be a Rolls Royce Phantom? And wouldn't Carolina Crown be a Ford Crown Victoria?
