Recommended Posts

Here's a secret I'd like to know...why in the 90's could Madison play high faster louder every year, but have their scores decrease? that's the best kept secret in drum corps...

Because in-time, in-tune and good balance/blend was still on the ensemble sheet...

Vanguard practicing in secret and then performing the 'Bottle Dance' in 1982 for the first time that season at Finals.

There were a few more 'Finals Only' surprises in the DCI vault - but that was certainly memorable.

The first "surprise" Bottle Dance was in 1979.

Prior to that we played the finale to Tchaikovsky's 4th.

We had to practice in our hotel rooms into pillows.

The Guard rehearsed in the hotel meeting rooms until the wee hours.

We only rehearsed it outside once.

The crowd went freakin' nuts.
