madalumni
20 tubas is just ridiculous. You don't need that many tubas. Especially in the oil can... and if you want more volume, you need more baris. Some corps even sacrifice a darker sound for volume and eliminate the euphs. Well given that it was Jim Prime's idea to have 20, I trust there's good reason for having that many. I guess we'll see how it works when the season gets here. I can't wait! And as far as talent in that section...I heard about the plan for 20 Tubas back in October, so it's not like they saw a lack of talent at auditions and then made that descision. Peel Paint
20 tubas is just ridiculous. You don't need that many tubas. Especially in the oil can... My thought exactly. I'm not sure what they're thinking there. And you can tell by my handle that I like it loud, but still. Outdoors, sure, I get it, but in the indoor environs of Indy, Atlanta, and San Antonio, where it counts most outside of Allentown, I'm not sure that more bottom end in brass is the way to go. I wasn't hearing a lot of complaints about a lack of bottom-end firepower last summer, and the problem is that if you overdo it there in an indoor facility, you can make everything else muddy. Do you suppose it has something to do with their program of Slaughter and Rhapsody, that this is a one-year, program-specific thing for them? BlooContraGuy
Bluecoats horn line numbers 24 16 8/16 16 Pretty similar to last year as far as that goes. Also, 20 tubas? Thats great for long bass notes, setting up the rest of the brass sections, but seriously, have fun cleaning anything more complex than quarter notes. WWonka
I would rather see 20 tubas and hear a great bass sound than see 12 tubas and a great synthesized bass... good luck scouts! How do you like 20 tubas and a great synthesized bass... Cause that's where we are headed.

jjeffeory
this. Perhaps they're going to have split tuba parts? I think it's a cool idea and Prime likes to go for a great bottom sound. Interesting, I say...
