ContraRich77
I want the truth but you can't handle the truth.Gary, we live in a world that has fields, and those fields have to be marched by men with sop's. Whose gonna do it? You? You, Gary? I have more responsibility here than you could possibly fathom. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. And that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves drum corps. I know deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you don't want me on that field, you need me on that field. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent marching drum corps, You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the sound I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a sop and stand your position on the field.. Either way, I don't give a #### what you think you are entitled to! Ill be here all week. Gary Matczak is like a brother to me, so I am not endorsing the enmity directed toward him........................but other than that this is one of the COOLEST FRIGGIN POSTS I HAVE EVER READ!!!!!!!! Ed, you receive an A +++++++++++++++ for creativity. Straight up.
hotdogchompa
Can I ask what happened that would cause the drum corps not to compete in 2010?

Hulka
Can I ask what happened that would cause the drum corps not to compete in 2010? To boil it down very succinctly, financial and recruiting issues.
imperial guard 80_82
Recuriting issues lead directly to the financial issues. We are not inactive, far from it. The mini-corps will be playing as many gigs in the Nashville area as we can find. We will attend the Baltimore parades. Planning for the 2011 program has begun. hotdogchompa
To boil it down very succinctly, financial and recruiting issues. Thanks for your honest reply. I believe that you guys/gals have a well run drum corps. I don't see any money issues (old debt) when I look at your IRS 990 forms from 2008 and back. I guess these economic times have really hurt participation in your area. Good luck and hope for better days ahead. You have a great drum corps and would love to see them on the field again. Looking forward to that.
Scerpella
Fund raising is a huge problem for any 501 3©. Bingo was a staple for many organizations but casinos dealt many of those programs a death blow. Kilties had tremendously good fortune in taking a chance on an idea 5 years ago which turned into the single largest producer of revenue for the corps. Great Lakes Brewfest has afforded the corps with security it never had before. The only problem with the event is that every year more people want to attend and the venue can only hold so many.
