kevingamin
I’ve been pretty hard on the Blue Devils for the past couple years. Whether it’s been musical selections I can’t stand, tuba lines I can’t hear, or uniform designs I can’t figure out, I’m more likely to speak out about what I hate about BD instead of what I like. This year’s show is no exception, especially after they teased me with the joint offerings of a horn line on King horns AND a show of Stan Kenton music. If there’s one thing Devs do right, it’s Kenton. Imagine my disappointment when La Suerta de Los Tontos is barely even hinted at in the show, then imagine my horror when City of Glass, a composition people walked out on when it was debuted in 1947, turned out to be the centerpiece of the musical book. ohwiseone
I agree, I still may not like the last 2 minutes of the show, but Its still an amazing program, and I love your analogy with the Star of Indiana Show, And when I see it Thursday With multi-cam and it getting blasted in 5.1, I may fall in love with the show. I have learned something from this year, Never judge a show by it Title, you might discover how different and new is very entertaining to watch Edited August 11, 2010 by ohwiseone
Tansea
Imagine my suprise to find myself defending BD's show the other night!!! Phew! I thought I felt the earth rent asunder. I agree, it is a vision of the new paradigm. I also have a tendency to love music that was walked out on in a former century, La Sacre Du Printemps being a notable example. So, yes, Virginia, I love the Blue Devils, "Through the Glass Darkly".

Full post You get it Gadget. BD 2010 is indeed a paradigm shift just as Star 1993 was. The activity we all love needs this periodically!!! Instead of hating it, let's all enjoy the ride.
wvu80
I agree, I still may not like the last 2 minutes of the show, The last two minutes of the show is the only thing I DO like! It's a good thing we all agree on this. That "most legendary DCI show ever" topic certainly got it right! Todd Tanji
Welcome to the dark side, Kevin. Until this year, if asked what the greatest drum corps show of all time was, and being objective about it, I would have had to say Star 1993. Pretty difficult for a lifer Blue Devil like me to admit that. But FINALLY Star 1993 has been surpassed by the 2010 Blue Devils. FOURTEEN!!! So funny, I remember most people hating Star back then and now they are the best thing since sliced bread......lol....I remember the day after finals the screams " IT"S NOT DRUM CORPS" and now look. Ive never really ever been GA GA over BD although I do like them this year,BUT I do think they are defining the next phase of Drum Corps this year. A new Dawn I think.
