tommytimp
"Verdi Cries" by 10,000 Maniacs. "Shipbuilding" by Elvis Costello. The Prelude, "Welcome Home, Miz Adams" or "Seena" from Bernstein's "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue." (Or White House Cantata if you prefer.) "Unlikely Lovers" from Falsettoland by William Finn. "Sailing" from "A New Brain," also by William Finn.
mingusmonk
I think the OP will agree: Maybe not necessarily a ballad, but a helluva chorale: Brian Wilson - Our Prayer I can't find Brian's tweaked studio version, so here is the original Beach Boys take. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHNjiwXXYF8 One could also do Wonderful. Even some of Cabin Essence could be ballad material. This just got me thinking, the way Brian Wilson chunked up themes and phrases for all of Smile, is very much like a modern drum corps program. oldsoprano
I've always thought the James Horner soundtrack to The Rocketeer would make a great ballad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfBrvokaQ6k...feature=related
HeatherM
I know many have tackled Dvorak's Carnival Overture, but the Andantino section is gorgeous and rarely played.
