Michael Boo
Ohio State is the brassiest of all college bands due to the unique brass instrumentation, and consequently, they remind corps fans a lot of the drum corps sound post-2000. Fixed. Not quite. I think you meant to write "pre-2000."
oldbandguy
Nice article Mike...one of your best! I think all corps should be required to do a Kenton tune in honor of his 100th.
Michael Boo
Nice article Mike...one of your best! I think all corps should be required to do a Kenton tune in honor of his 100th. If a corps did such a show for his 100th, they could call it "Kentonnial Celebration." (There is no charge for this service.)
Hrothgar15
Not quite. I think you meant to write "pre-2000." Hmm? No drum corps sounded like an all brass scholastic marching band before 2000. Fundamentally different instrumentation and style.

Excuse me. We're talking about Stan Kenton and drum corps here. Perhaps you would join us in this discussion or seek some other somewhere else? Frank: Thank you for your reply. There seems to be some controversy about when Stan was born, and it's not just Wikipedia. (This is in reference to finding out some websites state Kenton was born on February 19. Also, the "Birthday in Britain" CD I have also states that. Weird.) The following all state the December date. http://www.astro.com/astro-databank/Kenton,_Stan http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/musician.php?id=8330 http://www.yehoodi.com/comment/172877/on-this-day-in-swingin-history-10/1/ Edited December 17, 2010 by Michael Boo

bluecoats88
I've always wanted to hear a corps do Peanut Vendor. The disonance is wild in that tune
